They pumped up the action quite a bit for gencon. There was at least 2-3 times the combat this time around compared to both times they'd run it at Origins. It made for either excitement or exhaustion depending on your stamina. By the end (after also having been turned into some sort of mutant zombie and having to wear a mask) I was ready to keel over and die.

I ran one w/ Binia, and it was awsome. I hope they bring it back again, cuz I want to try again. I ended up as the corperate exec, so I didn't see much combat. Took 5 whole min of shooting before I even saw a monster, and the one time I did take damage, the thing was dead before I could bring the stun stick down. Although it was pretty fun ordering the NPCs around.

I played too, but was a bit disappointed. I played the biogeneticist and felt like I didn't have anything really to do. I had the cool super serum ropes, but each room, I must say I was looking for a TD type clue, a formula, a series of chemicals or the vial of serum I was to retrieve from the lab according to my character card. I even got on the computer in the "Spartan" room and it was interactive so I looked for my special mission. But there was none for me it seemed. It seemed like if you weren't a marine, you missed the "big-fun".
I would have liked if you got XP for surviving, and then, maybe for the non-combat classes, a bonus XP for completing your special mission.
Our synth played an excellent role play, just non-chalantly walking the halls telling the non-combat types when to move, even if the bullets were flying.

We had a great time, too, Carnie - although I didn't recognize you without the hat you wore last year! Weren't those scientist NPCs funny? Running around trying to find all the parts to their dead buddies, mainly just stirring up the chaos level. Very interesting experience.

I completely missed it. Where'd they run the event at? How "big" was it?

It was in the ballroom right across from event reg. It felt both small and big at the same time. Like, it wasn't really that big or impressive, but when we hit the time limits (like 3 min to detonation), it felt a lot bigger since we had to get to the other side of the room.

It ran 17 player teams w/ 4 NPCs (2 marines and 2 loopy scientists), and it still left plenty of room for monsters to spawn, so I think it was about the right amount of space.

I'll have to try this next year.
Of all the traits of humanity, there is only one we do not share with other species, which sets us apart and makes us unique
-- the ability to imagine.

You forgot about the seemingly endless hordes of NPC monster guys. I know some got recycled, so I'm curious to know how big their crew is in total....

I would hazzard a guess at not more than a dozen monsters. I do not think I saw more than 6-8 monsters at any given time.

I completely missed out on this too, it sounds like something fun to check out next year.

To a certain degree, and most definitely in a DIFFERENT way, I like TerrorWerks more than I like True Dungeon. Do not get me wrong, True Dungeon is fantastic and I love it a lot (it is my second favorite event at GenCon, right after Killer Breakfast), but sometimes dragging my butt and my tokens over to True Dungeon is a pain in the butt. I do not have a lot of tokens and I only bring in what I can carry in my Combat Vest and my Bag of Holding, but it is enough weight that I do not want to be carrying it around all day long. So, before going to True Dungeon I have to hop on over to my hotel, grab my tokens, and then hop on over to another hotel. TerrorWerks was an extrememly enjoyable and refreshing change of pace. I just showed up and played. I did not have to bring anything. Everything I needed was provided for me. Besides, there is also that primal thrill of pointing a gun at mutants and shooting them! I am convinced that it wanting to shoot mutants/zombies is racial memory that was hard-coded into our DNA at some point in our past. =D Next year I will be doing TerrorWerks again, and maybe more than once!

I know what you mean! My binder of tokens that outfit the entire group is getting HEAVY! I can see them coining a new medical term, "Token Shoulder", for injuries from carrying around too heavy of a token binder through a Dungeon =)
