TOPIC: What Did You Play?

What Did You Play? 15 years 3 months ago #1

For all those gamers out there (which is most of us, I'd think =)).

I played a few hours of Magic The Gathering Draft a few days ago (a friend and I draft three Booster Packs each, and then add lands to the drafted cards (playing every drafted card) and play. Tremendous fun, we do it as often as possible.

We played the Witcher. It turned out to be a pretty cool RPG.
Of all the traits of humanity, there is only one we do not share with other species, which sets us apart and makes us unique
-- the ability to imagine.

Did anyone play the DOS based ROGUE, back in the day? We spent countless hours playing it in college, and nobody ever successfully found the Amulet in the Dungeon and made it back out alive (without cheating and rewriting the program at least). It was success enough to gather enough gold to make the top 10 list before you died - and hope you died to something cool, so the Top 10 List would say "Killed by a Dragon" instead of "Killed by a Rat". The program was alpha numeric, the monsters were represented by a letter, each letter was a different monster.

My game friends and I played Battlestar Galactica today. It's no Settlers, but we had fun - I imagine it would be more fun for those who watch the show.
Settlers is the monopoly of eurogames.

Since it's henwy, I assume he is denigrating Settlers.

I now prefer battlestar to Settlers. Settlers has Dice for an element of chance.. but it can go too far... several unusual rolls early will really skew a game.
I much prefer the uncertanty regarding other players in battlestar, while remaining a team game.

Not something I've played in ages, but does anyone remember Telenguard (or Telengard?) for the Commodore-64? A D&D-type game. I remember spending many hours pilfering my way through the randomly generated dungeon, hoping for goodies and praying not to be trounced upon by a Troll much more powerful than my character.

Thinking of nostolgia (sp)...

What about the Temple of Apshi (or Apshai or whatever it was!) for the C64?

How about before then...I don't even recall it's name. Barely found any time to play it at school. Back on the TRS-80, it was something like Diamonds and Dragons or some such. You had a blank screen (much like Telengard) and had to move your character around and discover each square a bit at a time. I think you had glimpses of some treasure in the distance. You tried to work your way to the treasure without being pounced by the dragon.

Okay...speaking of Dragons. Does anyone else have the Electronic Dungeons and Dragons game? Complete with treasure pile, dragon, and one (or two I think) players? It had little red walls you could place as you discovered where the walls were. I became quite good at that game back in the day.
