TOPIC: Favorite Gen Con moments... (not including TD)

My GenCon moments ARE True Dungeon, and there are many.  I'll try to tell you just a few of them.<br /><br /><br />*Being there in 2003 to see gamers' excitement about this new game called True Dungeon.  What an experience.<br />*Meeting Raven for the first time. Way cool.<br />*Talking Jammies into being a Drow. I told her she was "perfect" for it.<br />*Making all those stones for the walls. <br />*Going to SoCall - California - in 2003 and meeting some very memorable people.  One of them was this tall, thin woman with long silky hair.  The room brightened when she smiled.  People started calling her "pixie" but I think she was more an imp!<br />*Making the mouth, the blink dog and entryway and carving the fireplace with a hand drill.  I also made a paper Mache goat head for 2004, but it didn't get used for various reasons.<br /><br /><br />I have to agree with Lori that the people are what is most memorable. It is why I go.

Here are a few of my favorite moments<br /><br />*Going to Gencon for the first time in 2004 and being one of the first people in the dealer hall*<br />*Going on the very first TD run of 2004 and surviving all the way through*<br />*Going to the Riddle Reveal in 2004 and realizing that I had to volunteer in 2005 in order to work with all of these cool people*<br />*Stopping by Widseth's booth each year*<br />*Meeting the very cool people at Green Ronin*<br />*Friday night dinner with the Buca Babes*<br />*Checking out the McFarland Publishing booth*<br /><br />Kim

Every year there seems to be something special that happens.<br /><br />For me the cons are no longer really for the games.  Yes, I have fun playing games, but I go for the people.  If I named everyone, I know I would forget someone.  Every year, I meet someone new, and add to the people that I cant wait to go up and hug.  For me, it is the wonder of being involved, in helping, and seeing peoples eyes light up and the fun experience they have.  Those are the special moments for me at the conventions.<br /><br />Origins, there is one point that is the highlight.  When I see my friend Frank, and get that 5 minute hug that seems to go on forever, but never long enough.  That is somethign I look forward to every year.  <br /><br />It is those special people that make the cons special for me.<br /><br />Oh, to get off the sappy stuff, there was this one year when WoTC was big on Star Wars RPG and Minis, my friend Mike, Claude, and I went up to demo the game to get our cards stamped, and this girl, she was ummmm "special" , she was playing Amidala.  I was playing a jedi of some kind.  She determines that she is going to use diplomecy on everything, including the enemy droids in order to get them to not attack us.  The GM is trying to pursaude her not to.  Finally we are all getting frustrated so I just embrace the dark side and swing at her, one shot kill.  The GM was "you want to hit her?"  "Yes"  "You kill her with one hit"  The girl turned around, looked at me, and yelled "You B****" and swung.  Had a black eye for a couple of weeks, but we were all laughing so hard after the shock wore off, and the girl stalked off.  My friends for weeks called me a "B****" using he tone of voice.

You should have just kicked her ass because the way she tells the story to her friends is that she b@$%&slapped someone for being a jerk during a RPG to general amusement. You should never let morons be able to claim any sort of victory. It's much harder to spin having your skull cracked as a positive.

No, I sure havent.  She prob wouldnt recognize me now anyway, I am a few pounds lighter, lacking about 4 feet of hair, and dont have the black eye, hehehe.<br /><br />I would sure remember her though...

I think she's probably lucky that Marinda didn't flag down some Gencon staff and have the girl thrown out.  I'm sure that slugging fellow gamers probably goes against some con rule.<br /><br />Kim

Yeah. If there's going to be a beatdown, gencon would want to profit from it somehow.
