haunted "houses" real ones and just for fun ones. 16 years 6 months ago #1

i don't know if anyone has seen the previews on SciFi. they are having a october 31 broadcast of Waverly Hills Sanitarium. they claim it is the most haunted place in america/world. its in louisville, kentucky and was a tuberculosis hospital. i know they set up a haunted house there every halloween, but there are other options to "tour" throughout the year. i have not had the pleasure yet, but plan on doing so this year. they are posted on the web if interested.

for those that believe in the psychic thing, i have had friends tell me it's for real.

Well that settles it then :P.

There's currently some reality show on WE or lifetime that's a psychic's version of top chef or some other reality show of that sort. They have psychics come on and then put them through challenges and eliminate the losers. I've only caught part of one episode but in it they had one guy sitting in one room of an old insane asylum. The psychics had to walk back and forth down the hallway and pick which room he was sitting in. They would get eliminated based on who was the furthest off.

Of course, the problem is that will nail most of the common quacks, but the good ones are really good at reading people. Unless it were set up that not even the host knew where the guy was sitting, they can probably get hints right form his small reactions.

I've been in a few places that were haunted.

One of them was an old warehouse. My friends and I went in a big group once... those of us that were in the office heard a dog barking from downstairs, the people downstairs heard a dog barking from the office. There was a little 'house' next door that had a room where the carpet looked like it had dried blood all over it. It was pretty creepy.

It was rumored that 'devil worshippers' used the place for rituals.

James Randi (and Penn and Teller),
Have been offering a prize of about $1,000,000 for any psychic that can convince them they have some "power". Randi wrote a book about exposing them. He did a test of Dowsers where he burried a set of plastic pipes. He then had a set of valves to let the water in different pipes. After claiming they could follow the water, none of the dowsers were able to do so.

It is a fun book. I think the title is "Flim Flam".

George

james randi has debunked so many psychics it's funny. the excuses they give when they cant perform under controlled conditions is hilarious.

My Dad was an insurance adjuster for almost 40 years. There was a woman that was somewhat "famous" in the area for helping law enforcement locate missing persons. She was called in on several occasions, and unfortunately was able to "vision" the body's location several times.

Anyway....a barn or something on her property was a total loss in a fire. My dad was the adjuster for the claim. Being a bit of a jokster and non-believer in the whole "psychic" thing, he kinda gives her crap that she surely should've "known" the barn was gonna burn. He joked that they probably shouldn't pay the claim, 'cause she SHOULD'A known! She didn't think it was too funny, and didn't appreciate him mocking her "craft". They had a good relationship and traded verbal jabs often, but that one wasn't funny!

Not sure where I stand on the psychic thing, really...I guess I'd have to say I do think some people have some kind of ability. I was with a friend once at the gambling boat and she was having some crazy good luck with roulette. We cleaned up that night. She would just holler out a number every once in a while and we'd put our money down, and it would hit. It happened about 10 times that night. She was a self-proclaimed psychic. I was happy 'cause I was a poor college student, and the extra money came in handy!

The psychic voice is telling me to go to bed now............

Lori
