TOPIC: Tim Duncan is the NBA's first superstar nerd

Tim Duncan is the NBA's first superstar nerd 16 years 10 months ago #1

From: myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-24-135/Kindly-Cast-Your-Spell-On-Us-Now--Tim-Duncan.html <br /><br />"Tim Duncan is the NBA's first superstar nerd. I find it very interesting that Tim Duncan's off the court pursuits include sword and knife collecting, Dungeons & Dragons, fantasy videogames & paintball. Add to that, dude's got a freakin' tattoo of Merlin from Arthurian lore! His other tat is of a Skeleton Jester. No barbed wire or homages to dead relatives here. Just pure (and endearing) D&D nerdcore."<br /><br />Maybe he'll come to Gen Con...

He ought to be invited.  He could afford to buy a lot of tokens to be sure.<br /><br /><br />Widseth

Glad to hear he's a gamer, but I still hope the Spurs lose.

Tim Duncan at gencon or TD would be cool.  Would we have to adjust the height of the doorways in the dungeon?<br /><br />Kim

Would he be able to see what is in the next room - by just standing next to the wall??

It's not the jock thing that's surprising IMO as much as race. It's hard to find black gamers in general. It's a genre heavily overrepresented by whites and asians it seems. I had a friend in chicago in our DnD group and I asked him about it once since he was bucking the percentages. His take on it was that it carries an extra stigma early on, at least in his experience. Not only was there the whole race alienation thing, but you're basically volunteering to be a geek.
