TOPIC: Harry Potter Question

Re: Harry Potter Question 17 years 4 days ago #13

Well I was somewhat kidding...I knew they were books and movies.

Never seen a movie all the way through...I think it was the first or second movie...just did not do much for me. Kids did not care for them either according to the wife.

I find the books to be quite good and a quick read, and the movies are getting better. I'm really looking forward to the finale.
I am also interested in the finale. I think killing Harry would be the cop-out. I'm really interested in Snape - good or evil? I think he killed Dumbledore for a reason that Dumbledore supported. I understand one of the big bookstores (Borders or B&N) are giving out bumper stickers when you pre-order saying that Snape is either good or evil (good is winning).

Kim, I did have that thought, but then in the final confrontation, Voldemort tells Harry it was Quirrell drinking the unicorn blood for him in the forest. I do like your theory re: Harry's emotional state.

Agreed. As a writer, it is sometimes hard keep all the details straight. It is comforting to me if Rowling slipped up a little. It doesn't make me feel so bad that between first and second draft in Talon of Light one of my characters changed their name--to think of that. They didn't even report it to me let alone the IRS. But I caught it and made them change back. Then again there was that guy who had blue eyes in chapter one and by the time chapter six rolled around he had so much mud in his eye that they had changed to brown.

It happens. After all listen to a politician long enough and you will witness how history can change in the blink of an eye.

Widseth

I believe if you actually read the book you will find that Harry met Quirrel about a month before the school started. It is in that time frame when Quirrel did his traveling and hence got possessed by Voldemort after he shook hands with Harry. So no Rowling did not make a mistake. Alas I have questions about some of the later books but they are no biggies and even with the inconsistencies I still enjoyed the books.

As Henwy said I do think she is losing steam (and I never liked the Robert Jordan series in the first place) so I think the final book will be interesting to read. I just hope she does actually stop at seven and does no more. Not even a prequel.

I thought it had been said that he was travelling for longer than that, but even so, the best explanation is that he was possessed by Voldemort after meeting Harry in the Leaky cauldron. Thanks!
Brian,
You are right. Hagrid states to Harry after they leave the Leaky Cauldron that Quirrell took a year off to get first hand experience with his own subject. He went to the Black Forest which is where he met Voldemort and was possessed by him.

Kim

Its been awhile since I read the books, but I still think he was possessed between the meeting at the Leaky Cauldron and the beginning of the school year. Otherwise it simply doesn't add up. Oh well, I guess I am not such a big a fan as others. I really don't care one way or the other. It is still a good series and I really enjoyed them.

Lady Myke
I love the series - well into book #2 right now. Only complaint is that there are too many "And this is what happened in the first book" reminders.
