TOPIC: Gen Con SPA program; call for submissions!!!!

I wanted to specifically let people know about this program well in advance of Gen Con, to give people a chance to plan and/or submit events.  Since some of you aren't on the Gen Con Forums, but might have spouses/sos you're trying to convince to come to Gen Con, thought I'd post this here in case there was any interest. =) <br /><br />Last year was the first year Gen Con ran a "SPA" program. Desgined to be a track to primarily appeal to spouses who aren't strictly gamers, it was actually a great success among gamers and nongamers alike. Last year under this program, Gen Con ran a diverse variety of events, to include yoga, belly dancing classes, knitting and crochet classes, jewelry and cooking classes, karate classes, and a winery tour.<br /><br />This year, Gen Con's hoping to make the SPA program even larger and better; with more events geared towards nongamers, as well as gamers. Feh. Useless crap. Darn non-gamers taking up space that could better be used for an expanded high roller suite for token collectors.

Techincally, I think it stands for SPouse Activities. But like I said, we had lots of gamers participate this past year.<br /><br />I can't say any events are definite yet, right now everything's tentative; but we've had a lot of interest in the Kendo classes this year.  Also, we're probably going to have several scrapbooking classes, including my favorite, titled "Crop Circle", where you come and bring all your old scrapbooking stuff and trade it with others.<br /><br />So definitely, if you've got any ideas for events or want to run something, just let me know; or if these events sound interesting to you or your spouse; sign up for them and/or let your spouse know!  They might not be so upset about you going to Gen Con if they have events to participate in as well.  =)

I think the SPA activities are great.  The winery tour is a good idea.  My wife won't go, though.  What she has done the past two years is go to Manhattan during GenCon weekend and see a bunch of plays on Broadway.<br /><br />Brian<br />

<br /><br />Ok.....but we do have a nursing room, hopefully to be combined with a toddler time out room this year; a nice kid gaming room, and the best darn Children's museum you've ever seen is in Indy.  Just sayin.'

After all the hoopla about there not being enough room with the construction, it seems sorta ridiculous to me to waste space on expanding this sort of thing. Maybe next, gencon can open up a pet-sitting option so people can bring their chihuahua's along and be sure they'll be entertained during the event.

I'm sure there are people who don't go to GenCon because of a significant other - if they can get the SO's to show up, that's two more people registering for GenCon and its events - the SO may even register for gaming events!  Even my wife enjoys Settlers!<br /><br />Brian<br />

<br /><br />Yup yup, if it can help someone go to Gen Con who might not otherwise be "allowed" to go, then I think it's a great thing.  =)
