Joy and jubilation, my hungry yet incredibly stingy compatriots for a week from today (February 20th) is National Pancake Day . On this most glorious of holidays, pancakes will be provided free of charge at your local IHOP. It is truly a day of celebration filled with many burps of overindulged contentment and the urge to take long naps afterwards.

This must be an american celebration because I have never seen it up here in Canada. Plus I have never heard of Ihop. Alas that is a shame because free pancakes are just awesome. My kids love them, of course it is probably just the syrup the love. We use real Canadian maple syrup. Yum!

you never heard of ihop, the world famous dr. seuse food chain? you know the one: ihop, uhop, theyhop, wehop, hop on pop? have you heard of their healthy food chain? 1 fish, 2 fish, red fish, blue fish. =D i'm sorry for the really bad joke, but the first time i heard the term ihop. that is kind of what went through my mind.

(snip) You've seen it - just under a different name: Shrove Tuesday. (also known as Mardi Gras in some parts of the world, unless I'm mistaken) It's the day before Lent starts, when people stuff themselves silly before they engage in the ritual fasting which starts Ash Wednesday. Of course, many people do not follow the religious tradition, but that's no excuse to miss out on a day of Pancakes, is it?

My brother Doug gave us some real Vermont maple syrup, and know I am addicted! I cannot abide the cheap stuff anymore, so I never order pancakes anymore. Yes...I am a pancake snob. Good thing Lori makes some awesome pancakes AND that Vermont maple syrup comes in half gallons!
