TOPIC: Token Dispenser

Token Dispenser 17 years 3 months ago #1

something hit me, I like the idea of tokens being readily accessible and not in a bag. Maybe have a belt or a sash of tokens that a player may need in a room and able to look at easily. Also and I apologize if these have already been listed a place to hold what tokens someone may be wearing as armor or weapons.

I don't mean to de-rail Heidi's thread...so if there are any further comments on the subject, this should have its own Topic.
I was thinking the same thing in the last two days. I am hoping to find or create some sort of holder to be attached to a belt. I'd like to see something like coin holders where you put one in at the top (or in the case the side) and each token inserted would push the bottom of the stack and spring back into the cartridge. In that manner, you could have a stack of arrows/bolts or spells at the ready...even gold. Simply pull one off the stack and the spring pushes the rest forward.

If that's what you mean and if there's more to say, let's start a new Topic.

New topic!

I like this idea very much - it basically sounds like a Pez Dispenser for tokens. If you've got items that are consumable, and which you want close at hand (arrows, bolts, minor heals, magic missles), have a little dispenser you can clip on your belt or something, which allows you to pop them out one at a time.

Obviously something like this takes at least a little bit of mechanical knowledge to get the spring feed and hatch right... or does it? What if it was a gravity feed item, that distributed the token out the bottom instead of the top? Then all we'd need would be the lever to pop the bottom one out, and the hatch the make sure it only came out when we wanted.

Basic material involved... perhaps using a small case made for poker chips? I think they make short, single-tube varieties...

I'm glad to see this in a New Topic.

I'll need to make a trip to a few stores and see what I can find. If anyone has ideas, please post them here.
I like JL's thought about using gravity, but I like what I'm thinking of as I (or other people) could see the front of the token.
Of course, even an updside down dispenser could be marked on top.

Isn't there a change dispenser like this? Maybe it could be modified for tokens? Or maybe one made for tokens instead of change?

There is a change dispenser that works like this, but even the largest bore of that is perhaps half the size needed for a token. Same concept though!

I was thinking about the need to "mark" what a tube was as well Weaver. I was thinking maybe the top of the tube had a slot you could stick one of that token (a clear plastic holder, perhaps) so you could see it. It would also serve as a "last shot" warning, allowing you to pull it out and use it when the tube runs dry. That way, nobody ever reaches down thinking they have something available, only to find they have none left. An automatic inventory warning system, so to speak (albeit a cheap one).

The change dispenser is what I had in mind with my original post. I'll see what I can find this week.

Hahah! I can just imagine Gary enter the Tavern laden down with one of these gumball machine monstrosities strapped to the front of his body like a belt buckle.

But just think how many tokens it could hold! =D

How many coins would you put in before you can ring up cherries?

Ooooh! Another idea! How about a slot machine that takes tokens? I think I remember another thread mentioning something like this - I'll have to go check!

Well - there was Henwy's box o' carp. You put in a token and got to grab one in return...

Better odds than Vegas - me thinks!
