TOPIC: Update on my Mom

I thought I posted here the same time I posted to the Gen Con forum last week, but looks like I forgot. Here's an update:<br /><br />I wanted to let everyone know the status of my Mom's health. The doctors feel they have found the cause of her seizures, and the decision has been made to perform brain surgery on December 14. There will be two neurosurgeons doing the procedure, one of whom is a trauma surgeon (which we have been told is what you want in this situation.)<br /><br />I will keep you posted on how things go. At this point, her spirits are good, and we are all optimistic. The area they are operating is fairly close to the surface, and the nearest "important" area is the motor strip for her right side, and the speech center. So she may need some therapy in those areas for a few months, but the doctors are confident there won't be any lasting effects. <br /><br />Thanks for all the kind thoughts and inquiries from everyone about how she is doing.<br />

Got a little additional info yesterday that I felt the need to pass on.<br /><br />Mom will have HEAVY restrictions for at least two months after the surgery. NO lifting, at all. Probably not even her purse. She won't be allowed to cook, or do laundry. So I'm going to be pretty busy. Which makes it even harder to find a job. I've started looking for evening/night positions so that Kevin will be home when I'm at work. I've thought about waiting tables, but I've never done it, which makes it harder to get hired at the places that pay enough, or have high tip potential. <br /><br />*sigh*  :|

Do you mean your experience as a wench doesn't count? <br /><br />I think it's remarkable the devotion that you are showing toward your mother. Never feel that it's not okay to ask for help if you need some. I hope you'll get through this okay.

My wife and I add our prayers.<br /><br />She had surgery 25 years ago, and is doing fairly well. She still has other tumors (mostly inoperable) that do cuase monirs seizures, though we have found a med that seems to suppress them.<br /><br />Dave & Jill
