TOPIC: Good Bye Ophelia Marie

Good Bye Ophelia Marie 17 years 6 months ago #1

Ophelia Marie was born July 13, 1999 on the streets of Charleston, SC. I adopted her with in hours of her birth. Ophelia has been a very shy, timid, but extremelly loving kitty ever since she was born. She loved her belly scratched, her ears scratched, and every part of her body scratched.

This past summer she contracted Kidney Disease. A very extreme form of it. After talking with mom and dad last night, I made the decision to end her suffering. Expecially over the last few weeks she has been wasting away, and her quality of life was at the point where if Ophelia was a human, I would be wanting it to be over for her. She was truely my furbaby. At 10:38 this morning, we said our goodbyes, and she passed onto a better life.

Ophelia is the kitty I went flying out of Gen Con on Sunday about. I thought I had her stable after Gen Con, but she never fully recovered. We found out at the vet today just how bad her kidneys were, and that the decsion would have probaly been taken out of our hands with in a few weeks, but she would have suffered greatly. Today was peacefull for her, and she was surrounded by those who love her.

I have an interesting kitty story. My twin sister and I had a cat we adopted from Cat welfare in our senior pictures. Note this cat at home was notorious for climbing on the counter and breaking dishes among other things yet at the photography sitting which was most of the day was an angel.

Between taking the pictures and getting them back he had an unfortunate run in with woolite and died, I found out that woolite smells sweet to some animals. After receiving the pictures it was hard to look at them without rembering my beloved Cocoanut.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Pets do so become part of the family after awhile. I have 2 cats and love them dearly - and me a dog lover, lol. They are great to come home to. I think, though a hard decision, you did the right thing. Suffering is never good for an animal or anyone.

*hugs* Losing a pet is as hard as losing a (human) family member. I still get choked up sometimes when I think about my first cat, Tiger, and he died 9 years ago.

Marinda,
I'm really sorry to hear about your cat. My husband and I have had three cats in the many years we've been together and they are very much like children. I know how hard it is to deal with them being ill. You are in my thoughts.

Kim

First off my condolences Marinda.

I have two cats named Shira and Gwen and have had them for 9 years now. I had been thinking if we couldn't find a place to move to I might have to give them up, but thankfully we have found a new place that is allowing us to bring them with us. Despite my husband's allergies we could not just throw them out or give them up very easily. So I am sorry to hear about Ophelia Marie's kidney failure and I hope you all the best. Sweet dreams Ophelia Marie.

That is the sad thing about owning pets (well, - pets other than a tortoise).

We do tend to outlive our furry/feathered/finned friends.

My condolences to you! Try to remember all the good times with Ophelia.

Thank you everyone. Yesterday was a really rough day, and I think it will be for a while. Even dad was shook up by this. Jackers has been wandering the house crying, cause he has never before not had another cat here in the house.

There are many good times to remember her by, and of course many pictures of her in places like my pajama drawer. If it was dark, warm, and soft she loved to be there.

Kitty is now in kitty heaven I am sure. We are waiting for the inevitable at our household as well. The senior cats Theo, Neko, and Nala are all pushing past 10 years with Theo being close to 13 if you can believe it.

These cats have provided lots of love to my sister and we will be sad to see them go, since it will be a matter of time. Theo even lost an upper fang playing with a toy this past year.
