TOPIC: Total crazy idea

Total crazy idea 1 month 2 weeks ago #1

So following all the discussion about new token powers, levels and such, what if True Adventures were to publish a TTRPG for True Dungeon, using tokens as the basis? I personally collect monster trophies, ammo and GP specifically for use on my TTRPG as well as the amazing 2020 collection of weapons and gear titled generically. Potions, scrolls, dust and other consumables are awesome. Maybe a TTRPG could enhance and build on many of the amazing ideas and paths folks are imagining.
Just a crazy thought as I clean out my garage on a muddy, rainy day.

Crazy, perhaps, but it just might work! Love this idea.

Can you elaborate a bit more? I may be a bit dense in understanding what you are trying to explain

Isn't that pretty much just any open gaming license version of D&D?

Somewhat related to this, but only somewhat.

There was an idea bouncing around of a getting the series of VTD modules printed in a bound edition. Print on demand, or such. Would be a nice way to have a tangible record of our collective journey over the last few years.

That would be amazing! VTD was a God send in the days of Covid, which in some ways are missed by me. I just feels like some of TD wants to force itself into existing RPG when it is its own system. Look at dwarves: they may get a shield benefit. In Dungeon Crawl Classics they get a Shield Bash attack as a standard action. Cool but maybe TD should consider it self as it’s own unique RPG than a rebranding of an existing TTRPG.

I had the idea that TD could make play-at-home campaigns. They would primarily be a campaign book but may come with some 10-packs too.

You start the campaign with a limited pool of tokens and build your characters. Perhaps the pool is defined by rarity and counts spread across the party.

Then how well you do determines your loot for each scenario. Loot could be treasure pulls (defined again based on rarities and counts) or specific things (e.g. if all characters survive the first scenario you can add a UR weapon to your supplies in addition to the normal treasure draws).

The idea is that your characters level up in equipment (and maybe level) over the course of the campaign. You would just need a reasonable supply of existing tokens to play the campaign.
My online token shop: www.tdtavern.com

We buy, sell, and trade True Dungeon tokens. We also have a convenient consignment program where you can sell your own tokens.

I'm anticipating the time when VTD is fully automated and groups can sign in and play at any time. Kind of a branching video adventure, where whichever path the group chooses is pre-recorded and plays when chosen. The combat system would have to be fully automated of course.

I really like this!!! Maybe a collaboration between TDA and our esteemed TD players to create its story from the beginning of possible. I’d love to read about all the adventures prior to me joining. Between those two groups we have plenty of amazing DM’s to create a story weaved into the Dungeons and campaigns thus far.
