TOPIC: Some good ideas that could potentially be applied to tokens...

I just read this article, and the second half talks about how this upcoming game plans to support the selling and trading of cards, and tournament play, through an app.

I'm always worried about losing high-valued builds at places like GenCon and it would be cool if you could use this type of app to not only create your build but also use it in the coaching room without having to physically present all of the actual tokens. I'd also love to be able to replace expensive tokens, but might require the ability to produce tokens in-house, or it might require Jeff to have larger stocks of tokens.

Not sure how you could apply this retroactively, though.

Hypothetically imagining this concept applied to TD, it seems like the first and perhaps largest hurdle is that it depends upon every copy of every token having a unique ID for registration purposes. Currently only a very few tokens have this (RoSP, SoC, CoA, ?) and I believe I've heard it said that this adds considerably to the production expense. Separately, I also can't imagine requiring DMs to pull out a smartphone to verify that this Potion Death's Door I'm trying to feed my fallen ally is still owned by me and didn't get virtually sold/traded to somebody else last week.

So if anything I think the useful thought experiment here would be, could any of this be applied just to UR+ tokens, or maybe even just to relic+ transmuted tokens? Still plenty of obstacles to solve there, but fewer than if we tried to imagine doing it for all tokens...

Yeah, exactly. Ideally, if you did UR+ then I think it would be super nice. Speaking as me as a player, if I had to pay a few dollars per token to convert all of my UR+ into tokens with a unique ID, and in exchange I could (1) play without physically bringing them with me every time (other than weapons, of course) and (2) could replace them if lost or stolen for another few dollars per token, that would be definitely worth it.

Despite having a full party worth of builds on me for audit purposes, since we started using the app i have found only the CoA gets verified at GC.
