My wife has said she will not go to any con, or any concert (which has been her true love) for at least another full year. I think 2021 will be a continuation of 2020. Sucks, but I think thats the world the science folks have wrought.

That’s the world of the virus - the scientists just share the information regarding the virus as they work it out.

If we were in the world the science folks wanted, we would have had a hard lockdown for 6 weeks and would be counting cases in single digits instead of now doubling every ten days.

My husband and I just had the same general conversation last night and have both decided that even if cons are given the green light in 2021, we are going to skip another year. Does it suck? Absolutely. We've been hunkered down at home since April and the fatigue is real. But we also look at it and realize it would suck significantly worse to be hasty and things go wrong. The vaccine news is absolutely wonderful and IS really exciting, both of us just are looking at it as the cons, if they happen next year, will be part of a testing point. We rather see how it plays out first and not be in the middle of it in case of critical failure. And when you think about it, this isn't a world the scientists have brought about, we are just watching the scientific method play out in real time, which is something we aren't used to. Generally I think for stuff like this, we don't have such a clear view behind the curtain as it were. We are used to seeing the successes and the end points. We don't usually get to see the trial and error, the mistakes, the research and all that as it is happening.

A couple my wife and I are close friends with moved to New Zealand about 10 years ago. We visiting them 4 years ago and thought New Zealand was nice - reminded us a lot of a mix of California and Boulder, Colorado but with people who were a bit more adventurous.

We face-timed with them Sunday.

They were commenting how when a case of Covid gets out, it is usually in Aukland and they treat individual cases like they matter.

They are having outdoor festivals without masks, group gatherings, in person everything. They are grieving for their American friends who are marching blindly into the inferno.

2 months of lockdown, massive testing, quarantine all international visitors, contact trace everyone and we could be case free like them. It’s not a miracle, it is just listening to science.

Meanwhile we have ER nurses telling us of people denying COVID is real with their literal dying breaths.
