TOPIC: Dungeon Walls

Dungeon Walls 4 years 7 months ago #1

For staff and those that have volunteered before, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the dungeon walls are made of? Specifically I'm talking about those cloth sheets that will hold their shape when you bend them. They're usually patterned to look like stone walls, but some were also used to make the ice cave in Odin's Redux.

I think you're talking about the "cave walls" the ones with the foil backing?

Yep! those are the ones. I'm trying to source some for larp so maybe someday we can stop using black plastic for walls.

It's some sort of heat shielding that gets crumpled to make the natural wall effect. Similar to this I think www.amazon.com/Hiwowsport-Aluminized-Thermal-Barrier-Adhesive/dp/B077N2LFYX/ref=sr_1_6 . If you're looking for some I'd start by going to a home improvement store and seeing what they have.

The cloth is called “formtex” by most, if I’m not mistaken. Gerriets International sells it as Formtex Uno or Form’It. Be aware that some have a laminated canvas while others use a lighter cloth. Their phone support was pretty helpful when last I talked to them. Let me know if I can help in some other way. Good luck! :)

And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit.

Hey Mike, maybe consider trying out some of the double-sided sheets when it is time to replace the old ones? Could cut down a bit on the time needed to spend hiding the silver side and/or make it easier to make it look nice.
