From what I recall, Jolly finally got him to hand over raw footage and someone else got it as complete as possible.

That is the condensed version. LOL!! I could spend over 2 hours telling you what really transpired. LOL!!

This guy was at Gencon, he seemes really excited about this. He was talking about how the game is played on a grid and the players are the d&d minis. Your going to be fighting actual costumed or designed monsters and there will be actual traps. He mentioned throwing arrows at people. I would definitely try it. It uses a pin system instead of tokens and the DM is supposed to know your stats based on the pins you have. I believe he said he will be at GC next year.

Did anyone get a chance to try this? I'm interested to know how it went.

I played two of the three adventures they had at GHC (would have played all three, but didn't get tickets in time). I know at least a dozen of us tried it out. I enjoyed it, and so did the others I talked to. I expect I'll play it at future cons as well.

Will that cause me to cut back on my TD playing? Nah. Time spent playing RPEX will come from other events I would have played.

Games consisted of:
- character selection (can have full party of 5 of same class)
- party card creation (they may have called it something else)
- get mission from innkeeper, and initial gear
- 3-4(?) rooms of exploration/combat
- epilogue (experience and treasure)

- experience is based on treasure acquired, monsters beaten, hidden things found, and traps not set off.
- getting to third level apparently lets you build your own character instead of using a pregen (someone that played all three days may be able to tell more about this)

- pins serve a similar purpose to tokens, but your event purchase doesn't include any pins, and treasure is a non-random choice of pin with your options based on how much experience you gained.

i played all three adventures. puzzles are td-ish (the non-physical ones). Combat is similar to dnd 5e combat. grid on the floor. you can move 5 squares and take 1 action or move 5 with no action. Will it cut into my TD no, but I am cutting back on runs so it will fill in nicely. There is a lot to like about it. Some I don’t care for. I will play again and thinking of going to Gary Con in March to play again. So not a replacement for TD but a substitute as I cannot (nor do I want to) play TD all the time. I did make to third level after the third run so we will see what character creation is like next time. 5 assassin party though could be fun.

Ohhhh and you don’t put on costumes whomever thought you did....or at least we never did in 3 adventures.

I dubbed this "True Flungeon" before I played (I'll still call it that) and it beat my expectations. It was fun and definitely was closer to D&D in nature, you are basically a real life mini. After doing the same TD runs 10+ times over at the point of GHC it was fun to mix it up and give GHC more variety. They need to make some improvements with props but this is in it's infant stage.

I'm not swapping out for TD or starting a Pin collection but I would definitely play again.

I had a lot of fun with this too - it was a nice way to get some more variety out of the convention. And like Jedi - I started a pin collection as well - guess I must have that addictive tendency

Are the rules online somewhere? Is there a pin database online somewhere? I am curious to learn more about this game.

I actually asked Andy (the person in charge over there) about that. He said there wasn't a database yet, but it's something he'd look into.

I ended up playing one of their adventures at GameHole Con. It was definitely fun, but it's in their early stages. I think if they make some good decisions, it could turn out to be a very cool thing.

Their trap system was interesting. The treasure scoring system was fun. On the run I went on, the rogue of the party very much enjoyed grabbing shiny gems.

I would play it again, given the opportunity, and see how it evolves.

I will say, having played a sorcerer, the spell system was a bit wonky. During character selection, I got to look a list of what spells do, but couldn't carry it with me into the dungeon, so I had to kind of guess at remembering what my spells did during the adventure.

What's an example of what a pin does?
