I liked what happened in the first movie of this trilogy. I wasn't surprised at what happened to Han, I was pretty sure he'd only sign up for one movie. The Last Jedi was by far my least favorite Star Wars movie, way behind the prequels. I'm not sure if the new movie can fix the damage from The Last Jedi.

Two words

Jar Jar.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Never cared for these myself. Worst three IMO.

I'm definitely in the camp that the prequels were massively better than 7 and 8. 7 was just a remake of 4 so that at least puts it as second worst behind 8.

Such potential wasted. Just think how much better 7-9 would have been as the thrawn trilogy....

Even if you liked 7 and 8,
Don’t tell me it was not a Major
Major Critical Failure,
All the fans wanted after 35 years
Was a new 5 min seen with Solo, Luke and
Leia together again, And we did not even get that.
Defend That.

EP 7 kill Solo
EP 8 Kill Luke
EP 9 Kill Leia (most likely will change)

Everything thought was for Max Money,
EP 1-3 had no Super Stars,
EP 7-8 had The Big 3, and Botched it so badly.

EP7 & EP8 major critical failure...? Not according to moviegoers: www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm

EP7 was second highest in adjusted dollars. And here's the thing, everyone who didn't like 7 & 8....well....they'll all be back in line opening up their wallets to watch EP9. Call it the force of the dark side, but they're going to get your cash...

Aggregate critics rating for Last Jedi is 91%
www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_wars_the_last_jedi

Aggregate critics rating for Force Awakens is 92%
www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_wars_episode_vii_the_force_awakens

That doesn’t
sound like
major critical failure
to me.

Episodes 1-3 came in at 54, 65 and 79 respectively.

Highest rated of all was Empire Strikes Back at 95%

I wouldn't call VII or VIII critical or box office failures by any stretch of the imagination, but VIII was the first main series Star Wars movie to make less than it's predecessor.

I was speaking in the context of
Missed plot opportunity’s,
They got there box office $ True.
But there other money
Maker, Toys are not do well at all.
They say it’s because the toys got
Release too early. Sounds like some
Nice Corporate spin to me.
More likely they stopped selling well
After the fans seen the movie.

Chief Executive Officer Brian Goldner says the company made an error by releasing toys too far ahead of the franchise’s most recent movie, “The Last Jedi.” That contributed to disappointing sales of the products during the holidays — a season that was already hurt by the bankruptcy of Toys “R” Us Inc.

“The fact that we began to merchandise the film in September and the film came out in December was just too long a period of time to sustain retail interest,” Goldner, 54, said in an interview. It didn’t help that lots of other toys were hitting around the same time, he said, “with an array of entertainment initiatives coming to market.”

Sorry but that is what was so great about 7. A New Hope was a remake of Hidden Fortress (and some other stuff). Lucas was nodding to Kurosawa with A New Hope. JJ was nodding to Lucas in VII. In other words JJ Lucased Lucas. That is ingenious, 1 time. If The Last Jedi was a rehash of ESB that would have been bad. Thrawn novels were great but if they were going to be a movies they needed to be done in the 90’s when the actors were younger. Forget about recasting them for a Thrawn series, imo.
