TOPIC: Tull's Life Counter

Tull's Life Counter 6 years 2 months ago #1

I am migrating this topic out of the Character Generator App discussion.

Version 2.0 of the Life Counter is now available.

- We have added an icon to the clock face on Apple Watches to allow easy access to the app. (they are termed Complications) This Complication does not include the hit point number, as keeping timely updates to the Complication is not possible. So it just has the icon available to add to your clock face. One tap and it brings up the watch app.

- Minor adjustments to maintain compatibility with IOS 11.

It still maintains the connection available with the phone app, and both Hit Point counts stay in sync. The Dice Rolling view remains the same.

Enjoy!

It's a shame we can't have the HP digits in the complication, but the presence of a direct route to the app is still a welcome addition. Thanks Cranston!
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

Nice
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Updating Complications is limited to providing an array of time/value pairs at least 10 minutes apart. Doesn't really work for Hit Points that change frequently, and not predictably. So just no damage or healing in less than 10 minute intervals. Ok?

Coool! Thanks for the picture. Tap on the icon, and it brings up the app on the watch. You can set the max hit points on the paired phone. Hit point totals can be changed on the watch or the phone and the two are sync'd.

No problem. Thank you for another killer app! It seems I am able to go above the number of hit points that I set for the character by turning the dial on the watch. Is there a way to make it so that I can only make them go lower?

 Actually, what you describe, is the way it was originally. Users complained about the hard limit, because the only way to change it was from the phone, which is not easy to get to in the dungeon. Users set the HP count before the dungeon, but a number of factors may give a boost, i.e. using Character Generators for +1, or effects from tokens added to the build at the last minute. So it was changed to not have a hard limit on the watch.

Glad you like the app! Thanks for checking it out!

Lol! I couldn't think of an instance where I'd have more hit points than was written down on the party card. Still, I think it would be nice to be able to double-tap on the face to reset to maximum. That way going higher or lower isn't restricted but you can always have access to your base HP number.

Anyway, I'll be pimping the app with my watch at all upcoming shows as an alternative to the paperclip system. Thanks again!

The Life Counter 3.0 for IOS has been released. It includes a number of updates:

- More watch face icons (Complications) and now supports Watch OS 5 & 6 watch faces
- Added a gauge showing Hit Points relative to Max. (updates on the gauge can be slow)
- Added text to Corner and Bezel Complications for color watch faces (updates with HP count)
- Phone app supports Dark Mode and IOS 13
- Hit point counts go from -9 to 199 (used to stop at 0)

Enjoy!

I don't know how many Berserker-playing, Ro7P-equipping, Apple watch wearing folks we have, so maybe this would not be worth the effort, but have you considered going down to -49 HP to accommodate the cap for Fight After Death?
