TOPIC: Board/Card Games!

Board/Card Games! 8 years 2 weeks ago #1

Humanity does not live on tokens alone - we need games!

I figured we could have a thread where we talk about games we play (other than TD), games we want, games we have, etc.

Topics can inlcude tabletop games, card games, collectible card games, role-playing games, etc.

Someone who plays video and computer games (I don't) are welcome to start another thread. I am sure there would be enough interest!

A buddy got Scyhte this year at GenCon - it's pretty great if you like worker placement style games.

It's an interesting mix of worker placement and resource management. It's got a bit of everything (except for bidding).

And the rules keep it moving pretty quickly.

Also completely obsessed with Ascension the deckbuilding game. If anyone else plays with their mobile app let me know if you'd like to play.

I played Scythe for the first time last night - fantastic game. Probably rate this a 9 on the Geek, but only a 1 on the Jen Scale (as in, would Jen, my wife, play it with me).

Beautiful components (I have the deluxe KS version), very strategic, many important decisions to be made, high replayability.

Anyone else play this yet?

Doing Magic the Gathering, and especially Magic Drafts, has been our number one favorite game since it came out almost 25 years ago. It is taking a back seat now in our group gaming sessions due to one of my best friend's vision problems.

Last year at GENCON, our favorite game by far was Zombiecide! By the end of GENCON we were playing with all available expansions. :)

Time stories it's excellent.

Descent second edition is one of my favorite Games.

I try to have a Game day every week or two so I've played and own quite a variety.

I started with Magic: TG, but gave it up a few years ago. I sld my cards, but still have my cards from a couple other CCGs - Doomtown, 7th Sea. Still would do a sealed deck event. Switched over to board games, of which I have a fairly huge collection.

Zombicide is one my favorites. It's hard to get to the table though, because a couple people in our gaming group hate it.

I love worker placement games but I find Scythe underwhelming. The production quality is top notch but I find the game mechanics lacking.

T.I.M.E. stories is pretty terrible. The concept is intriguing but the implementation is terrible. (I've played the first two scenarios - the one at the asylum and the zombie one).

I have a friend who LOVES Zombicide. I absolutely LOATHE it. Not a fan of the artwork style (everything is so ugly, including the characters). Don't really like the character development system (reminds me of the system used for the D&D Castle Ravenloft and D&D Legend of Drizzt, which was also not interesting). Don't really like the game mechanics.

Traditionally, my favorite games have been Battlestar Galactica and Diplomacy.

My favorite worker placement games are Viticulture and Russian Railroads. Agricola is also nice if you have the cute animal pieces.

Always love a good game of A Game of Thrones....

Let's not say a game is "terrible." Let us say instead that it is not your cup o' tea.

TIME Stories is a great concept and an original game. Not sure I would want to play again, though (I did the asylum). I can see why some people really like it.
