TOPIC: Hair cutting. . . locks of love

Hair cutting. . . locks of love 17 years 8 months ago #1

Hey I just thought I'd drop a little note to any of you that might be thinking of cutting your hair.
If you are thinking of cutting 10" or more off to consider thinking of donating it to locks of love.

I'm going to be cutting my hair this week and try to do so about once every 18 months. It makes it so its once a year, for a couple years.
People often think their hair won't be acceptable because its colored, but it is. Here are their requirements/general info:
www.locksoflove.org/donate_hair.php
Donate Hair:
1)We accept 10" minimum hair length (tip to tip), not wigs, falls, or synthetic hair

2)Please bundle hair in ponytail or braid.

3)Hair needs to be clean, dry, placed in a plastic bag, then padded envelope.

4)We need hair from men and women, young and old, all colors and races.

5)Hair may be colored or permed, but not bleached or chemically damaged (if unsure, ask your stylist).

6)Hair swept off the floor is not usable.

7)Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.

8)Hair that is short, gray, or unsuitable for children will be separated from the ponytails and sold at fair market value to offset the cost of manufacturing.

9)You may pull curly hair straight to measure the minimum 10".

10)The majority of all hair donated comes from children who wish to help other children.

11)Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails for donation.

12)Please note: Anyone can cut your hair as long as the above guidelines are followed.

Just thought I'd share that info. :)

Thanks, DD. Hopefully mine will grow the other 2-3 inches I want by the end of the year. That way there will be time for it to grow back quite a bit before Indy next year.

that is my intention for letting my hair grow out. my sister donated hers and i thought i could do that. going on 3 years, and no luck. between friends getting married and funerals in the family, it seems impossible. right now i just look like a bird set up house in it. to long to work with; to short to pull back. i hope nothing comes up to have to get haircut before i can donate it. =|

Thanks for posting.

I always have the intention of donating mine. Right now though...I think I'm about two inches of the minimum requirement of 10 inches. Suppose I'll just have to keep measuring and go have it cut once it's 10 inches.

Yay! *bounces* I finally got my hair cut! It is now officially 12" shorter. Amazing what 18 months can do. *Smiles*
It feels sooo much lighter!
Now to get a padded envelope so I can mail the ponytail in.

Again, if any of all y'all are thinking of cutting your hair, If its long enough consider donating it! Its a great way to help some kids. *smiles*

I do what I always do.
I let my hair grow out for 18 months. Then I cut off about a foot. Have the ends trimmed even. Send ponytail to locks of love. Let hair grow out for 18 months. . . .

Its been my little tradition for about the past 5 years. Other wise I don't really do anything to my hair.
We joke in my family I have 2 healthy things about me. My hair and my nails. The nails help with back scratches. And the hair goes to help the kids. Really not much to say or show about my hair cut, it just pretty much gets lopped off. Sorry if thats not very exciting to tell.
If you send them your hair, they'll be able to control you through voodoo.
