TOPIC: Relay for Life

Relay for Life 17 years 10 months ago #1

Well, I finally feel like I have my life back. I was our team captain for Walgreens' Relay for Life team in Bowling Green, KY. We managed to raise over 4,000 dollars for the American Cancer Society. Warren County exceeded it's goal of raising 172,000 and raised a total of 190,000 dollars. Everybody seemed to have a lot of fun at the event. I would encourage anyone who has a chance to participate in Relay for Life at least once. It's an extremely worthwhile cause and it's like TD that once you're involved you're hooked.

Kim

Well done and congrats Smak. That is a wonderful thing to do and an exciting amount for the relay to raise!

My father-in-law is a cancer survivor. We've been participating in the West Peoria Relay for Life for several years now. It really is something to be involved and see so many people walking.

Congrats to all who support worthy causes to help others. No greater feeling in the world that to support people in some sort of need. I think when we get outside ourselves, it is refreshing and renewing and benefits our own psyche. Plus it helps us realize that no matter what our problems are, they could be worse.

Thanks again.

Widseth

This past weekend was a bit of an eye opener for some people. I was playing security for the breast cancer walk. All of a sudden a woman stops her car in teh middle of the street, looks over at us with our banners and pink shirts, and starts to bawl. She pulls over and comes running to us. She was just on her way home from being told by her doc she has breast cancer. Just was really weird that she happened to take the route home that she did. We were able to get her help from some of the better Chicagoland centers because she did stop.

Was just a bit surreal.
