TOPIC: David Sleaze: The Punk Magician

Many many years ago, I saw a standup comic named Greg Travis do a routine where he took on the character of David Sleaze, The Punk Magician. You can watch an NSFW (language) clip of it here . If you're able, please watch it before reading the rest of this post because what I'm about to say won't make sense unless you've seen the whole routine. It's only 3:10 minutes long.

Around 10 years ago, my D&D group would occasionally run into scenarios where real-word logic/science could not be reconciled with what was happening in the adventure. This would always frustrate us because as gamers we yearn for the verisimilitude of stuff making complete sense to us. Since we live in the real world, it's only natural for us to assume its rules apply everywhere. So one night when one of these situations came up, I found a copy of the aforementioned clip and showed it to them. We all got a good laugh out of it and from then on, whenever we would run into an in-game situation that couldn't happen in the real world, one (or more) of us would adopt a faux British accent and exclaim, "It's Magic! F*** YOUUUUUU!" We'd all laugh and get on with the game because that common experience allowed us to remember we don't always need to sweat the small stuff. Sometimes it can be more fun just to sit back, enjoy the ride, and have fun. Ultimately, isn't that why we play games--to have fun?

I sincerely hope you enjoy the clip and that the coarse language isn't a barrier to you appreciating it. If you wind up sharing it with your friends and then later on one of them quotes it back to you in a game, shoot me a PM because I'd love to hear about it.

Though it is indeed nsfw I watched it with my headphones in and everyone around me was wondering why I was laughing so much.
