I don't accept any freaking cosplayer as a geek. Just because you put on a halloween costume doesn't earn you any cred. You'd have to back it up with something else. This especially includes those narcissistic jerkwads who spent the entire convention doing nothing but walking up and down hallways creating traffic congestion so they could get their pictures taken.

Well then your flat out wrong. Trust me as someone who builds replica props and costumes from time to time doing it well is just as much a labor of love as anything else. You don't put that much time and or money into something and not end up caring about it. Everyone has different reasons for why they do what they do and some people are better at it then others but end of the day I'm not going to argue about it (since I can never really tell when your being serious or just trying to provoke a response anyway) but until you've done it yourself (and I don't know if you have) your in no real position to comment.
Semper Gumby, Always flexible.

Sartre sits in in a coffee shop and asks for a coffee without cream. The barista apologizes “Sorry, we don't have any cream. Can I offer you a coffee without milk instead?”

I do agree quite passionately with Henwy on one thing: the rude people who block traffic in the crowded vendor hall for pictures, but that's an offense shared by the photographers and the subjects. When I find them blocking me I've started either just walking in between them anyway, and/or telling them to shoot with traffic, not across. GenCon isn't put on just for them, and all those people standing around because of their inconsideration have things to do.

As for who is or isn't a geek - I'm not sure there's a good definition, is there? The original meaning was a talentless sideshow performer who bit the heads off live chickens as entertainment. I hope none of us are that...
