Feh. Suuurree. Everyone and their geriatric mother is a geek now that it's more acceptable and cool. I demand an inquisition where we check credentials and burn heretics who don't make the grade.

I find geek girls especially suspicious, and not just because of rampant misogyny. That's just a bonus. Where in the world were all of these supposed geek girls in grade school and highschool and even college?

Speaking for myself, I would add sexual orientation in that list. I may not have ever had my geek cred dismissed because of my "equipment", but I know what it's like to be demeaned by gamers for the way I use it.

Tolerance is hippie crap. You can't judge people on their knowledge or ability? WTF. We might as well put on freaking animal heads and join the furry cuddle pile.

I demand purity tests. If you don't know the difference between star trek and star wars or have never had an argument about which would win Star Destroyer vs the Enterprise you are not a real geek. Go back to writing your Twilight fanfics.

IMO it doesn't matter if you don't know the difference between star trek and star wars (or enjoy sparkly vampires). What matters is that your here now, interested in finding out, and passionate about what you enjoy. If you want in welcome to the party, I don't care if you've been around long enough to know what THACO is or if you decided to go geek because its the flavor of the week. Your here now and maybe you'll find something that makes you want to stay regardless of your reasons for coming.

I've been an outcast geek girl since 1982, but you will never hear me take part in this discussion. I would rather tell you how the Vorlon Planetkiller was superior to both. Haha

I give you that the Vorlons would mop the floor with both the federation and the empire combined, but in your example I'm compelled to ask which enterprise.

There were always two to three females in my D&D group in the 80s. Sometimes four.

I once GMed an all female Star Trek Role Playing Game campaign, short lived though it was. They called themselves "girls with guns" after a fairly obscure Tommy Shaw tune.

So, yeah, they have always been out there.

Our culture stigmatized geek/nerd behavior for a long time. It was hard enough being a male of that persuasion, but being female meant you were harassed at least twice as hard. I am pretty sure you never noticed the younger versions of these women as they doing a great job of hiding.

I am happy that it is much more acceptable to openly embrace all the things we love.

PS... I am fairly confident that any Enterprise could easily outmaneuver a star destroyer, easily crippling it with phasers and well placed photon torpedoes.
