TOPIC: True Dungeon Theme Party?

True Dungeon Theme Party? 11 years 2 weeks ago #1

What would a TD themed party be like? What kinds of things would be served and what sorts of activities would there be? I'm having a recruitment party this Saturday and I'm looking for ideas on how to make it special.

For a start, I would think that any drinks served would need to be renamed to various potion names.

Potion Cure Light Wounds could be a Diet Coke
Potion Bull's Strength might be a Shot of Jack

Maybe play some shuffle board or rig a rogues box out of a game of operation

Great! I'll totally do something with potions! I have a drink fountain so maybe I'll make a punch for that. I'm not sure how to rig up the rogues box. I don't have an operation game handy... Hmm.. Awesome ideas! Mohr! Mohr! Mohr!!!

The Drink Fountain could be a Font of Holy Water!

I did a slider board at a recent party. I got a 5 foot folding table and had a sheet of clear acrylic cut to size to fit the top. Then I had an image printed at Staples that was the right width for the table. It worked out great.

With printing the image you can then make it anything you want and the acrylic lets you change it at will. Some felt slider pads were put under some wood furniture mover disks and voila, Sliders!

Get a pair of shoe box lids that fit snugly in one another and line the bottom one with foil/an aluminum baking sheet from the dollar store/ anything conductive etc. Cut a channel out of the top box and cover the lip of that channel with more foil so you have two conductive surfaces. Now find one of those little dollar store LED candles and break it open (your looking for the wires that go to the batteries). Cut one of the wires between the batteries and the LED light (you might need to twist on some longer bits of wire to act as extensions. Once you have your extensions connect one foil on the bottom plate and the other to the foil around the channel you cut into the top. When something conductive closes the gap between those two sheets of foil the LED should light. Then just get a of copper wire and strip off about an inch of two of the shielding to use as your stylus. You can of course pretty it up by using a wooden box, brass plates, or more/fancy lights but this should cover your basic model.

Also maybe print out some character cards (graphics are on the site) and blow them up to use as posters. Maybe show the TD preview 2011 preview video or 2012 run through videos from youtube.

You may be able to check out the riddle reveals from the past and craft a puzzle or two for your guests. If you have a decent stash of tokens, maybe use them to play a game of Memory? Take a bunch of pairs of tokens, mix them up and place them face down, play just like you would if they were playing cards.

You can make a treasure chest cake. It's something I've been wanting to do at my next token party, and it doesn't seem too difficult. Just do an image search for "treasure chest cake" to get some ideas. And/or you can do cupcakes. Print out pictures of your favorite tokens, cut them out, glue them to tooth picks, and stick them in cupcakes.
I make chainmail! Check out www.ArcadianChain.com for chainmail jewelry and accessories, including token holders, dice bags, and d20 keychains.

And--if you make the treasure chest cake, you can slip a token, face down, under one piece, or maybe even stick it in (like a "king cake"). :)
