Off topic but I need to vent a bit.

I play world of warcraft (10man guild, durid healer, were on Rag). I also hold down a full time job as a data analyst and take care of a rather large property (about 10 acres of yard between my place and my grandmothers (who lives next door)). In short I’m fairly busy, but I’ve been a gamer since high school so I make time to play three 3 hours raids per week. That’s about it for me and gaming these days but I like my work life balance so no worries there.

A few weeks ago I took a week off of raiding for Gencon. I gave the raid leader lots of notice that I would be missing the Thursday and optional Monday cleanup raid (I was still available and online for the Tuesday Wednesday raids). When Tuesday of that week rolled around I was asked to sit for the week since it would be easier to find a healer for a full clear rather then just the last two days. I agreed, fought though some truly horrible pugs with the dungeon finder and had a good time a gencon.

Long story short the healer they found to sub in for the week joined the guild and has been coming on all of our runs on her priest. This has forced our regular priest healer to play his mage (which he isn’t enjoying at all, also worth noting the new girl has a geared shaman she’s choosing not to play (we have no active shamans)).

This week I was asked to sit out again for day and quite possibly the week since “We have 4 healers vying for 3 slots", next week the new priest is going to sit and I’m going to go or so I’m told. I feel bad for our regular priest who should have a chance to play the character he wants so I havent said much yet but last night I found out that our new healer is also running in a second guild with her shaman on our off days. Needless to say I was pissed.

I make a real effort to keep raiding despite a busy life. I became a healer when the guild needed one, I've stuck around when the guild faced drama, and I've missed a grand total of 1 scheduled raid in the last 6 months, and the raid makes it farther with me healing then the new girl.

I’m not sure if I’m over reacting but I feel slighted. I want to put my foot down and say if you don’t have a raid slot fine but I’m not going to wait around on deck just in case you need me or blow my entire weeks lock to help out when she can’t put the numbers to get them through major domo. Not when I only have 9 hours a week to play and I represent an in demand roll just because someone else complains louder. On the other hand though I really like my guild and don’t want to loose it by throwing a tantrum.

Any help or perspective would be appreciated.

I got fed up a couple of months ago, and just quit without looking back. This was with a fully-geared raiding character; it just wasn't worth the hassle any longer.

You could always drop it and try Rift. Since they were kind enough to give it to you for free.

Sounds like someone on the team has a new crush, and you're getting shafted because they are trying to spend time with 'her'.

Put your foot down and they can't honor their long held more reliable contact, then go find another guild that can use you.

I agree. Your RL is a dick or getting sucked one way or the other tell them your going or your out. Guilds are a dime a dozen and if this is how your guild treats its members they arn't good as you say. give them the ole "peace out"

I'd say don't do anything rash. I'd calmly talk to the RL, because it's pretty hard work being an RL when you have to deal with class balance, putting together raids around everyone's schedule, dealing with all the drama between guild members, and trying to make people happy concerning loot, because no matter what you do, someone ALWAYS tends to feel slighted.

The person who really should be talking to the RL is the healer being forced to play the Mage. If that person truly wants to play a Healer, that was their first spec, they should get it, but if your guild has an overabundance, then that can mean having to sit out every so often. (I play a Hunter on WoW, and a DPS Warrior (Riftblade) on Rift, so I understand being sat out in favor others). I understand feeling slighted because of your available time being so low, but per your story, they do seem to be trying to work it out so everyone has a chance to go (although, the one thing you should find out is if it will be revolving each week with the other healers you haven't mentioned, because if they are having to possibly sit out a week, its completely fair in my opinion.)

That's just my opinion.

Yea, it really does suck, but raiding guilds work that way and that's why I don't raid seriously. You could try to reason with your GM, but that could also lead to kick from guild if he/she gets angry.
