TOPIC: Neat idea that may come to nothing.

Neat idea that may come to nothing. 12 years 8 months ago #1

IF artwork were to be done, of memorable moments in the dungeons over the years...what would you pick?

As an example...a party of adventurers facing Smoak (Which version?)? A page that has several of the runes from various tokens? The party being attacked by Mermaids? What are the memorable moments from the dungeon of this year, or past years, that YOU think would make some awesome artwork?

I never got to see it because of unfortunate circumstances, but I hear the '04 final room was exactly the reverse. Art into TD.

Would love to know more. '04 was a bit before my time in TD...first run was in '08...but, I've heard a few stories, and am very curious.

I'm told that it was an homage to the front cover of a 1st edition sourcebook. A temple setup of sorts that matched the painting. For any more details you'd need a vet who actually saw it but it's always been one of my greatest TD regrets that I missed out on seeing it.

Finally killing Smoak, after being roasted by her several times last year, was memorable. But honestly, the first thing that jumped into my head was completing the laser puzzle. I think a gifted artist could make an awesome picture of ten people holding their balls <tee hee hee> and looking up in anticipation at the globe over the doorway as a brilliant burst of green energy hits it.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

My brother commissioned an artist (the guy who draws for that Wrestling RPG/ Table game)... to render the Dork Squad (me and my three brothers) as our TD characters with our fallen foe: Smoak... It's freaking awesome. I'll post a digital pic if I can get my brother to send me a file. :)

The two parties seeing each other in the "mirror" before entering the final room to challenge Iuz. (One run my party posed a la Charlie's Angels - cracked the other party up!)

I was in the very last run of 04. It was a gorgeous backdrop of the 1E cover demon, and an alter in front of it the party interacted with. After fighting a group of lizardmen. You had to figure out the clue to which hole in the alter to put your hand in. It involved an anagram, which was a clue in the Bard's Book that I didn't remember until I heard the solution.

Henwy's famous "Dagger Run", where all the players went into the dungeon equipped with nothing but a dagger each. (And because the Cleric couldn't use a dagger, he gave his to the Ranger, who then had two daggers. Oooooh!)

They went in with no URs, no armour, no healing potions, no rings, etc.
(although, I believe the Cleric was given a staff which the Rogue drew out of a treasure chest, so by the end, there was a +1 staff in the party)

And despite "going commando", they managed to defeat Iuz.

i head into the room first, being the ranger. and through the backlit curtain appears a very attractive woman. we lock eyes, i smile at her, she smiles back. but her smile has a hint of evil. as my eyes scan upward, i see her hair...snakes. son of a...

I was in the first run of 04. Tom Gowen was our dm. I remember Rodney the imp and voice over done by none other than Gary Gygax. The last room was awe inspiring with the artwork. It was also cool that there were 4 combat tables. I think we guessed which hole to reach into in the altar. My entire party managed to survive.

Now, it _WAS_ fun to have the DMs tell the other group in the mirror room that the other adventurers they saw were nekkid. But I'm pretty sure unless a lot of artistic license is taken, that's a painted rendition no one would want to see.

Not to mention, I still think we might be the only group to ever run from a monster. No doubt that's part of the reason TD started adding obscured exits/forcefields to all the ways out that don't let you egress until the monster is dead.
