It is a mixture of instructional design and project management. I'm working to get my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification this year (mostly so I can wear a fur coat and a feathered hat). In previous incarnations I've been an instructional designer, a traveling business consultant, a high school speech and theatre teacher, a tutor, a music director for youth musicals, a Starbucks barista, a shoe sales clerk, an administrative assistant, a mail room monkey, an IT technician for a small college, and the guy at the driving range who drives the armored ball collector (for about two days).

As for home life, I've got three kids and two ferrets. My baby-momma and I are getting hitched up next month. After a 14 year romance, three kids, and house, we figured it the next logical conclusion.

Kaplan, huh? I love your books!!

That's cool, though. I've always wanted to know what sort of things they did at Kaplan, besides writing condensed texts which young'uns must worship.

Wow, some of you guys have some very impressive occupations!

Me, I sell auto insurance through a family owned agency that may not be here next year, so my employment status may change soon.

I'm also one of the co-founders of a small gaming company called Brainhouse Studios LLC. We've got a few different products in the works (keeping specifics under a tight lid for now), and we might start demo/selling at Gencon in the future. I also write reviews for collectables and videogames on our website and try to find interesting news for our forums.

Good luck with the studio, Danacyrus! I have a couple of friends who are photographers and I know how nice it is once you have your own studio.

Thanks :)

It's nice indeed, I just can't afford to constantly hire studios and equipment - you don't make enough money from the shoot, and people look at you wierdly if you charge them alot more for a studio shoot... Even without the studio, I enjoy it alot.

I've supported myself as a bouncer, bartender, retail manager, tech support, artist, had an abbreviated Navy career, and currently a plain ol' blue collar working man.

For fun I've been a cage fighter, into fight choreography, and been an entertainer and artisan/vendor at renaissance faires and many different scifi/geek conventions.

Started college at one point, then became a junkie for a few too many years, hoping to go back someday. I can easily afford it now, just finding the time and figuring out what I want to do as my first choice isn't realistic anymore.

I am a Registered Communications Distribution Designer, see www.BICSI.org

I currently manage all Voice and Data installations at the largest brick structure in the world, Building 10 at the National Institutes of Health. I also manage all Copper and Fiber Optic connectivity between the 100+ building on campus and to all of the 40+ buildings off Campus, and three remote sites around the country. I Have 7 full time employees and 30+ contractors that I baby sit...er manage.

I was telephoneman for 20 years, and started climbing poles and hanging drops to homes when I was 20. My most famous customer was Henry Kissinger, from when I worked at Connecticut and K St, two blocks from the White House.

I have some really great telephone stories, so if you see me ask. Going into peoples homes can be real interesting and scary.

Back in the day from a hobby stand point, I started the Washington Metropolitan Area Gaming Society, ran Atlanticon ( one of the grandaddies of gaming conventions) and Cold Wars for HMGS. Now I just attend and let someone else do the work.

I play D&D 3.5 with the same group since 1989, I play GURPS, D&D Online, and any LARP when I can
