TOPIC: Real Lives

Real Lives 13 years 3 months ago #1

I just wanted to start a topic about what we do for a living in the real world. So, what do you do for a profession? What do you do in the True World, :P ?

I am a Senior Software Engineer.

I have been an industrial electrician for nearly twenty years. Before that, line worker in an ammunition plant, insurance sales, carpentry, remodeling, roofing, CNC lathe operator, cook, K9 cop, and laborer (repeatedly). Basically, whatever pays the bills.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity! (Luckily I'm only half.)

Teacher, but I don't see myself finishing the school year - these are the worst kids I've had since my first year of teaching (14 years ago).

I own a small sign shop and run a small game terrain company called "Dwarven Forge". I've been a AMC movie theater manager, deep fry cook and network installer.

I could have been a doctor if it weren't for the Science part.

Always dreamt of being a professional baseball player, but that dream ended when a Baltimore Orioles scout told me I would never hit a major league fastball (what do they teach them in Baltimore anyway?--I never would have had any problem knocking out their third baseman or short stop--what were their names?--oh yeah Brooks Robinson and Louis Aparicio). Nevermind. I wanted to play for the Yankees anyway.

So I settled for the next best thing. I buy and sell tomatoes and run a produce company, after years of loading and unloading trucks, driving trucks, running a warehouse, buying carrots, celery, apples, peaches, strawberries, lechee nuts, mangoes, and just about everything else you see in a grocery store--including Tide soap, and the lard the baker uses in the bakery to make his cookies. I never bought meat. I should do that some day. My grandpa worked in a slaughter house. When I would go visit him there, it was like Rocky.

When I retire, I plan to write full time and travel the country selling my books. I have so little time now that that has to take a back seat when I really want it to be in the front seat. After that, I will try out for the Yankees or maybe the Mariners (I could walk on there and be an every day player there if I didn't mind losing. Hmmmmm)

I currently work as a forensic scientist, with my area of focus on biology and DNA analysis - I have been working where I currently am for a bit over three years and I totally love it (trying to get to the truth of an event, if possible, is definitely satisfying).

Before what I am doing now, I managed an environmental microbiology and asbestos laboratory, which paid the bills, but lacked the satisfaction that my current position grants. Plus, I am not a big fan of asbestos!

But before those gigs, I worked at a subway for years, at a pizza hut, as a pool attendant, as an ice hockey ref, and as a dishwasher.

I would also love to retire and just write novels - it's tough to write when you seem to be always busy!

I have worked for Wal-Mart, for over seven and half years. Then I got smart or at least I thought I did, I changed profession and became a Certified nursing Assistant. I have worked in Nursing Homes (stay away from there if you can) and hospital, which I currently work for one of the biggest in Kentucky, University of Kentucky, Good Sam. on the heart unit.

In 2011 I will be going back to school, pursuing a Nursing degree. It's about time to, since I have been a Certified Nursing Assistant for 14 years.

I am a Registered Nurse. I worked on a Med/Surg floor at the local hospital for 6 years, and decided I needed a change. Last year I started working at a SODC (State Operated Developmental Center) and I work with dually diagnosed adults. The population there has a Developmental Disability with a major psychiatric diagnosis (Schizophrenia, Antisocial Personality Disorder, and Schizoaffective disorder are the most common). NEVER boring, and NEVER the same!
