TOPIC: Training for the LA Marathon
Careful that you don't overdo it!

On the other hand, if you get really physically fit, Jeff can devise some "Whirling Dervish" sort of monster that has to fly around the dungeon all day, and you can be the dervish!

Ugh - the spinning! How about a really fast gelatinous cube racing through the halls?

You'd have to put some pounds back on the accurately replicate the jiggling of the cube.

Good workout today - 1 mile warmup, 4 X 440 at hard, steady pace with 4 X 440 jogging in between to recover, then a 1 mile cooldown. Whew!

That sounds like a sprinters workout...

It may have been a lifetime ago...but I seem to remember if you are planning on doing a Marathon...you need to slowly build endurance and not speed. Have you researched marathon training books? There was a really good one out years ago, I think I owned it when I was thinking about running around Big Bear lake for fun. (Did that twice, and although it was not 26 miles...I got a really nice "high" from that trek.)

It was more a pace workout than a sprint workout. Endurance is definitely the main focus, with other workouts improving form, strength, consistency, etc. Tmr I will do 6 miles LSD (long, slow distance), and tonight I am doing some resistance training. I do have a book by a guy who writes for Runners' World, Marathons for Mortals. Next Sunday (11/1) I start the formal training program with Team in Training.

Running around Big Bear Lake sounds like quite a challenge! I iamgine it was beautiful. Haven't been there myself.

pages.teamintraining.org/los/LA10/BrianSymington
...not a challenge when you are 17 or 18 and in shape...

Dragged myself through a slow 4.5 miles today - was it the wind? Not running since Saturday? All the red lights? Well, anyway, official practices start this Sunday, and I am looking forward to it.

pages.teamintraining.org/los/LA10/BrianSymington

Don't let a bad day of training get you down. I have bad days in the gym and I get frustrated... but I try to breathe into that frustration and let it go... keep it up and stay the course- you will get there in the end. :-)
Legally... its questionable. Morally... its disgusting. Personally... I *like* it.
