No URs or above needed to survive and enjoy Hardcore and below.

Reasonable Epic builds do not need to improve their chances.

No use to Mythic builds.

Nightmare can cherry pick older tokens with similar powers for less than expect auction prices.

People were successful in preventing power creep which results in no need and the worst set of URs and transmutes in a number of years. Congratulations to those that desire no power creep.

I guess you’ll have to be content with the crazy arcanum ring, arcanum set bonus, safehold 1’s slotless TEs and Coin.

Edit, and plenty of free healing and extra melee damage from the Vampire Ring

Take time and money elsewhere is what content means.

And no growth. New players don't need tokens beyond starter packs and longer term players at some point move on leaving those in the middle holding the bag.

If TD combine Nightmare and Epic that would result in the middle either stepping up and putting their money where their mouth is or force them down to hardcore. But the middle was and continues to be vocally against what would cause growth. And bad behavior is rewarded.

Some of those newer players will likely start buying tokens at some level - some might just buy a few packs, others might go all the way to Legendary or Mythic. If TD designed a fair amount of the non-slotless URs at a power level where they would appeal to Legendary/Mythic players, it seems that those are likely overpowered for UR level.

Creep kills games. period. Why spend money today when things get better tomorrow for the same cost?

If we contain creep, eventually a player will have no URs left to buy to make their build better and will have to graduate to relics, then legendary if they want to keep making their build better. Once they have a legendary build, they will start picking up things for other characters. If a player eventually acquires all the legendary and all they have left to acquire is the annual legendaries and multi years, congrats! You've got someone who has spent more than a car playing the game. Keep them engaged with events and pickup new players that want grow into higher rarity builds. The best part is, those very invested, very engaged players are likely to want to go out and help get new players - look at Trent as an example.

For those complaining that there are no good UR's in this years set I'd say it depends on your perspective. For new or newer players there's plenty of great Token's this year. For those that are vets that are UR maxed then maybe not. In that case work on Relic, Legendary or towards Mythic. Power level over time should not drastically change within each rarity category, that would not make any sense from a game design standpoint. Want more power, go up a rarity or two. I'm guessing that over time there will be some pretty kick ass Mythic Tokens. So put your Token spend towards higher Safehold levels.

Against my better judgement, I'm going to add my two cents. And that's all it's worth...two cents. It's my opinion and may reflect that of no one else. Just thought I'd add it to the mix.

Creep kills games? Sure, but that's like saying an apple tastes exactly the same as an orange. True Dungeon is not a competitive game. If creep was going to kill it, it'd already be long dead. So, guess what, creep also sells tokens. I'm not sure how token sales kills the game.

True Dungeon is based off of D&D. D&D is all about power creep. Why don't we just max out D&D characters at level 2 or 3? The best D&D games are where the DM spends effort making sure the level of the players match the level of the dungeon. The adventure should be difficult, but if you avoid stupid mistakes, you should have a good chance of survival. Still that element of poor luck to worry about.

That's where things get different. The character cards may say your character is Level 4 or Level 5, but tokens make your character more powerful and actually equivalent to a much higher level. So, instead of a DM telling you your build is appropriate for a certain level of the dungeon, it's left up to the players. If your nature is to be conservative, you may have a Level 8 character going through a Level 4 dungeon. Maybe its not like playing non-lethal, but you're getting close. If you're a risk taker, you go through a level of difficulty with a lower level character and hope your wits will pull you through.

It's up to each player on how they want to play the game. The problems arise in random groups having a mix of power level. Based on how things currently operate, that's not going to change and it has nothing to do with more power creep. We're way past power creep.

That's brings us back to the current set of tokens planned for 2026. I'm okay with them. Yeah, if I'm looking to "level up" my character, there's not really anything in the UR, Relic or Legendary chain that "scratch that itch". The Arcanum, Mythic and Mark of Enlightenment will probably take care of that next year. That's okay. I'll still need tokens, if for no other reason than to mulch them toward getting Mythic tokens. The situation may not be the same in future years. Just something to think about.

Normal just needs starter packs to have fun and enjoy.

Hardcore just needs rares, uncommon, commons and to have fun and enjoy.

Nightmare just needs URs and below to have fun and enjoy.

How about limiting Hardcore to 2 URs, rares and below and treasure enhancers? Or do folks want to have overly powered characters?

How about limiting Nightmare to 2 relics, URs and below and treasure enhancers? Or do folks want to have overly powered characters?

How about limit legendary, eldritch and arcaeum(sp?) to Epic DR and above?

Why do so many feel the need to tell others what to do? That is the number one complaint of new and existing players.

Who knows maybe I can buy a few single tickets to random runs and force normal level play and not borrow tokens or treasure enhancers and get just 4 treasure? If people try to push tokens then that will be registered as a complaint on feedback along with the zoom name(s). Will that help drive more ticket sales?

I’m sorry are you threatening potentially holding run difficulty hostage in order to leave bad feedback??

Slight creep is what keeps this game going. If items don’t continue to evolve the token market will crash. We are almost to this point now. Fragments have been propping up Auction prices for a while now. This doesn’t mean that every year needs to obsolete the past, but marginal items are probably a mistake.

I hope I am wrong and TD sells a lot of these tokens, even if I am skeptical of the usefulness of some of the final images. The legendaries remind me a lot of Vim’s.

I agree that slight creep is a worthwhile goal. It's just a little subjective and often varies by class with some classes ending up with more than slight and others with none. And that's okay as long as it balances out. Like I said, there's plenty of creep next year outside of the standard Common-Legendary path. That won't be true every year.

And I really don't see creep as a major problem as long as dungeon difficulty keeps up with it. The problems lie with:
- Lack of transparency over what build stats are needed to run each level of difficulty
- Lack of veteran player control regarding how to hold back on their build if they want to maximize fun
- Lack of newer player understanding that whether you run normal DR or epic DR, it's the same dungeon and as long as you're properly equipped it's no easier nor more difficult. Honestly, surviving at Epic level is not a higher achievement than surviving at normal level. And if you're able to survive Epic with a hardcore or barely nightmare build, than the dungeon is likely too easy for those with truly Epic builds and TD hasn't done their job.

And I'll say this again. True Dungeon attracts a lot of people who also tend to like playing D&D. I don't know about everyone else, but in D&D I'm always trying to level up my character and find or buy items that help my character survive or make my character stronger in battle. In True Dungeon, we do that through tokens. Maybe I don't get a new feat every 4 levels, but I can save up for this nifty Legendary token that does something just as cool.

A part of it depends how you define creep.

Is it creep to have a +1 weapon at rare, +2 at UR, +3 at relic and +5 at legendary? Yes, from the perspective that a character gets stronger fitting those weapons. This is not the creep I'm concerned about. If the next token dev has a +2 weapon at rare, this isn't OK - we've established the power level at rare is +1 and UR is +2. This immediately undercuts anyone who bought a UR weapon. The same holds true in the other slots - I don't want to see a +3 damage UR Ioun Stone when I've already bought several at +2. I regret purchasing the +2s because we're seeing a trend to push rares into +2. Similarly, I'm reconsidering buying Vol tokens after seeing the Charm and Ioun of the Champion - why do I want to spend the money I spent on Champion's choice when in 3 years we'll probably have +2/+2/+2 vol charms and iouns?

The key reason we buy tokens is because it's fun to character build - there is no real game reason to when you can play hardcore with rares and get exactly the same experience as playing epic. Judging the vibes in my group and on discord, bigger numbers aren't as much fun as they used to be. When those numbers creep tokens you've already bought at a given rarity, the conversation quickly turns to "we should just stop buying, dump what we have, and play at hardcore".
