Epic can vary. It can be difficult to just another notch above nightmare. I have a question mark after Epic. If the run is going to be insanely difficult, we'll discuss in coaching and possibly go down to Nightmare. We do want to have fun, although fun can sometimes involve characters not surviving. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
If you're open to borrowing tokens, you can pretty much borrow anything you want with this group. To me, the primary focus for fighter types is to have a good "to hit" number. Your wife won't have that problem as a wizard, unless the monster is immune to magic. Occasionally, that happens. Then wizards just need to be creative. Our paladin will likely guard wizards, and definitely has Epic worthy AC, so no need to worry about getting hit unless its an AOE attack. Of course, wizards have a tendency to hurt themselves a lot, so there is that.
We're a little light on healing at the moment. If necessary, I can switch to an Epic level Cleric, although I know some druids who can heal pretty well and might join the group. As long as one person survives a room, we have plenty of death's door type potions to bring people back.
The bottom line is this. We want to have fun. Depending upon the rest of the group, sometimes Nightmare has become too easy with monsters all dying in 1 or 2 rounds, thus we try Epic. But, this is a Grunnel Holiday Special, so I expect it to be a little zany to begin with.
