TOPIC: How Bibwick learned 'Bonk' from Bog

How Bibwick learned 'Bonk' from Bog 2 months 3 weeks ago #1

TL;DR: The point of the fanciful story below is to illustrate how with high end tokens, even the classes who should be near the best and the worst at some tasks in True Dungeon, end up within 20% of one another.

The particular example is how a Wizard can build towards a two handed melee build which ends up being comparable in damage output to that of a Barbarian building towards the same goal.

Bibwick the Wizard once visited Bog, the great Barbarian Berzerker.

Over a dinner of turkey legs and cherry wine, Bog agreed to teach Bibwik the spell 'Bonk':

Bonk - Cantrip Spell Attack - Unlimited uses
Material Components: A two handed weapon
Somatic Components: Swing the material component toward the head of the target of this spell
Verbal Components: Shout 'Bonk!'

While Bibwik could never match Bog's Berzerker Fury, he was intrigued by the power of Bog's beard beads.

Being an excellent artificer, Bibwik fashioned a great necklace, allowing him to equip 5 additional beard beads, these in some ways made up for his naturally smaller stature when casting Bonk.

At the end of the day, when wearing the roughly the same equipment, Bibwik compared his version of Bonk with Bog's version:

Barbarian Bog's Bonk Two Handed Melee attack: +28 to hit, +93 to damage (+12.83 average weapon damage)

Wizard Bibwik's Bonk Two Handed Melee attack: +28 to hit, +79 to damage (+8.5 average weapon damage)

In terms of conditional combat abilities:

Bog the Barbarian can take advantage of:
* Greater Rage in 3 rooms for +6 damage
* 2/game Fury turning a hit into a crit vs. critable monsters
* Could sacrifice +1 to hit and damage for Charm of Quick Strike, allowing for a 7/20 chance of an extra round in combat each time combat starts combat

Bibwick the Wizard can take advantage of:
* Spell damage bonus of +28 and the ability to cast spells when melee combat, or a non-slide attack is desired
* The ability to maze an enemy 1/game
* Could sacrifice +1 to hit and damage for Charm of Spell Storing allowing for 1/game free action lightning storm (20 damage each to all monsters, 28 damage in a pool to assign to among them)

Notes:
- Both Bog and Bibwik equip all treasure boosters.
- Both equip the 2025 Bead of Asgard (+4 Strength) and Bifrost Charm (+4 damage to melee and ranged) for a total of +2 to hit and +6 to damage in melee
- Since Bibwick's Bead Necklace is not in the character builder tools:
+ we equip 3 of our damage beads in the tool, then manually add in the damage of 3 more (leaving 2 slots open for treasure beads)
+ One of those three is Bead of Asgard accounted for above
+ The other two are: Bead of the Bull for +1 to STR and the 2025 special +1 STR bead; For a total of +2 STR or +1 to hit and damage
