Think of it like this, your friend paid for the ticket, if you don't want to do the run, why should he not get his money back?

The thought is that you paid your friend for his ticket, so you'd like to get your own money back.

True, but how does Gencon verify that you paid your friend?

There in is the problem. They can't, so they leave it to the buyer to refund the tickets.

Be nice if there was a simpler way. But lets say it could be refunded to the buyer by any seller. How do you prove the seller has permission from the buyer to refund any ticket, even one's bought with intent of the seller using it?

I can buy a full run, and in a typical year (Not this one) would have no issue finding 13 friends wanting 1 of 10 tickets to TD. If one backs out, I have 3 others who would happily buy it.

And to that, it could cause a flip side issue if sellers (Friend bought for) were allowed to sell it. Then does the buyer still have rights to sell the ticket? If they didn't pay me for it, and it's now theirs by rights of buying it, does that stop me from selling it without their permission even thou they never paid me for it? Remember, the ticket it now owned by the friend, not the buyer.

Simplest answer is to transfer the ticket back to your friend, and have them refund you. However, even then, your friend only gets Gen Con credit back as I understand.

When I returned a ticket, I was offered system credit for the full amount or a refund to my credit card minus a processing fee. So you can get money back, but not the full amount. Also, I "think" if you used system credit to buy a ticket, then you can only get system credit if you return the ticket, but not 100% sure on that bit.

And I agree with the person who says it is not fair that event organizers don't get credit for tickets purchased but not used. When I was responding about not refunding to someone other than the original purchaser, I was purely addressing the refund process, not the relationship between GenCon and the event organizers. If I buy a ticket to a concert but don't go, Ticketmaster doesn't keep the entire value. The band still gets their cut whether I heard them play or not.
