I still definitely enjoy playing True Dungeon and will certainly continue to do so in some capacity; I'm just honestly a bit concerned with how much new stuff seems to be coming along that I'm almost certainly going to be locked out of for the forseeable future if not permanently.

It also, honestly, feels a bit NFT-Adjacent which is always a huge negative for me in any space, but without the details of how they are going to work that's just a hunch based on the fact that land is being sold in a game so it's a bit of an unfounded concern at the moment.

I do understand what you're saying, it does seem like the gap between the top and bottom in TD is getting larger and larger. It's been getting larger consistently almost since the beginning, but seems to be picking up the pace. I hope the Safeholds don't create too much of a gap between land holders and non-land holders.

I wasn't sure where to put this, but it seemed like maybe this thread would be a decent place.

I recently became aware of two interactive event spaces that seem to share DNA with True Dungeon, and thought maybe elements of their approach could serve as inspiration for Safehold ideas:

1. Omega Mart:

area15.com/experiences/meow-wolf/

2. Dragon Quest Island:

I'd fast forward to about 02:15 to see some interactive stuff.

This is an interactive RPG experience where your inventory, XP, etc., is associated with a handheld badge (probably an RFID chip) and the experience is delivered via props and screens in kiosks.

To be clear - the connection to Safeholds is tenuous, I just think these might be mineable for good ideas about TD like experiences with more permanence.

Ok. Just a different take on Safe hold

Safehold could be five levels of “deposit” where as a player I assign some of my tokens to it. For example let’s say a safehold I (one) would provided storage for five slots. I submit to TDHQ my five tokens (the five TEs) and I receive a safehold I with a unique RFID/number representing it. Now in conjunction with the app, I can look up my safehold ID and the five tokens can be placed on my character. At the epilogue, I can proof by showing the safehold. TDHQ becomes the bank depository for tokens.

II(two) could be 8 tokens
III(three) could be 10 tokens
Etc

This gives a great benefit to players without having gap for newer players unable to catch up. It is a cool thing too in that TDHQ has the depository of tokens against the safehold and can do banking things like not needing to print another Bo4W because they have them on deposit in other safehold

Perhaps safeholds could have an ongoing maintenance costs, in order to get their benefit for a season.

So, if you crafted a safehold you would always have it, but if it had an effect in any given season you'd have to spend resources to "activate" it.

The possible issue I see is something like someone assigning (for example) a Charm of Avarice to their safehold, and then use that same Charm of Avarice for someone else on the same run (or a different run with overlapping times) you're using your safehold CoA.

Not sure how to translate it to this, but I always liked how safeholds had a community box. Where higher level players would contribute for reputation of some sort, and lower level players had access to the donated gear.

Also wanted to toss in the idea of safeholds being class based of some sort, and gives bonuses to the class(es) that was least played the previous event. As a PUG runner, I tend to see the same couple classes picked in each group and not as much variety. Would be cool to see some more diverse groups when finding groups with people already signed up.

Last idea (although I actually don’t usually like it) would be random PVP groups based on the number on the Safeholds token. Gives something to do in between. Once again it’s just a vague idea and may break things, but it’s a thought.

I think the idea is that you would have to physically relinquish the chips when they go into the safehold (like recipe is a bunch of specific stuff plus the X tokens you want to be in your safehold). I like the desired outcome (ability to reduce the weight/bulk to bring along to in person events). I think many challenging details to work out if so though.

First, are the individual tokens 'extractable' from the safehold somehow? If so that commits TD to cataloging and saving tokens from every year indefinitely which I suspect they don't do today. Or they would have to have a process to essentially have physical safety deposit-like storage. Either way it seems like it would generate a bunch of long-term potential labor costs to maintain.

If the tokens aren't extractable, then it detracts from the collectibility aspect of the game. I would be ok with something along these lines, people would have to decide if a token is something they feel will be something they want to hold on to without any chance to sell. For people who bring along non best-in-class level tokens to loan out, that might be true, though coordinating with people to know what they're borrowing without having something to put out on their party card could be challenging. There would then need to be some easy way to check the content at least in the coaching rooms (where time can already be pretty tight), and maybe at epilogue, though it might be reasonable to just exclude treasure enhancers from going in at all.

This is an interesting concept and discussion, and I look forward to what comes from it.

Personally, I like the idea of a Safehold providing an out-of-game benefit as something to keep players engaged between cons/VTDs, although I don’t have any brilliant insights on what the benefit could be.

If there is an in-game benefit, I really like the concept of a boon provided to all members of the party, as long as at least one party member has a Safehold. Maybe something like legal healing between rooms, healing potions being worth double, or “everyone has a Pouch of Tulz even if they don’t have a Pouch of Tulz” effect (it could also scale to include more/better powers as people upgrade Safeholds). My thought here is that it would decrease the gap between the haves and have-nots—if you play with a “have,” you’re a “have” too. I don’t think we need something that just buffs stats—that’s what regular tokens are for.

As to the “collectibility of the game”, don’t tell NFT owners they have not collected something, it’ll get you an ear full. What you have described, with a token becoming “digital” after being stored, sounds 90% like an NFT, so long as there is a mechanism to transfer that digital component to another individual, digitally or physically. NFTs are not usually physical, though neither are bitcoins, and this is about where my understanding of the pyramid scheme(s) ends!

What ever the effect it needs to be simple.

There should be no level of variables that either True Dungeon or coaches need to track or look in to.

Time In the rooms is limited , you can see the stress some of the volunteers feel at times.

I like this concept, and hope its another fun mechanic. Yet I also want it to be a simple flavor event. Not a complex part of the min maxing a lot of us do.

I just hope to know what it does before transmute. I hate to miss out on something great. But I also hate to waste resources.
if it’s powerful I’m ok with a high transmute cost. If it’s week please keep it cheap.
