+1 to this. I know that we spend a lot of time discussing viability of options for builds, but we need to balance that against the need for desireable relics. Not over-creeping Arcane Bracelets or Orion's seems like a solid strategy for preserving future options for reprints as well as keeping long-time invested players happy that they're older items aren't obsoleted.


I'm in two minds about whether I think this might be too strong or not... it is a Legendary, after all... but I definitely agree that any potential Earcuff of Orbits transmutes should not grant any more than two Ioun Stone slots. The cap is nine and you start with five, so an earcuff which grants three or more IS slots will obsolete every other IS expander which currently exists, including the fairly recent Orion's Belt.

As a Legendary, it is probably fine. But I thought he was suggesting it as a Relic? (5* = Relic, Legendaries have no star on them)

Original suggestion is as a Relic, similar to Charm of Awakened Synergy. I don't have a problem with it being a legendary, but it is difficult to merge two UR tokens into a Legendary if you also want to have an intermediate Relic item.

I'd question if there's been enough merged URs to really establish precedent. And in any case, I'd look at it less like merging the two URs. The Arcane Earcuff won't be in print so the recipe wouldn't actually include that (or at least not as the primary recipe). You'd just be burning some "random" UR on the step to Relic, and two other random URs for the Legendary.

Good spot. In my head I'd just assumed there would be a relic version which granted +2 IS slots and +1 Charm slot, so clearly didn't read the post properly. I do think anything which grants +4 slots would be Legendary level.

I also realized that in a super high-end build it allows for Legendary Charm Bracelets + Orion's + This to fill out the cap for both Charms and IS, which I think would be attractive to the whales.

I would go with the simple option for Orbits:

Relic Earcuff of Orbits: +3 Ioun
Legendary Earcuff of Orbits: +4 Ioun


Since STR/melee builds are starting to fall behind ranged these days:

Relic Gloves: +6 STR
Legendary Gloves: +8 STR
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

Can we get another 4* treasure boosting token like the charm from a few years back? Basically like the following:


Ioun stone of treasure boosting

The wearer may increase the effect of an Ultra Rare or lower rarity Treasure-Enhancing token by +1

No more than one Treasure-Enhancing token may be equipped by the wearer of this charm.

For the purpose of this token’s restriction, Ioun Stone of Treasure Boosting does not count as a Treasure-Enhancing token.

I think designing a token to hit the cap and make redundant all the other IS slot expanders is a bad idea. A single +3 or +4 IS expander reduces build diversity at the high end when taking into account builds that do not exceed the IS cap.

Playing "The Price is Right" with IS slots, lets look at how to hit the cap using the proposed +4 IS slot Orbits without going over the cap.

Ear: Legendary Orbits.

Cap reached in 1 token.

Lets look at the +3 Relic as well:

Option 1:
Ear: Relic Orbits.
Earcuff of Minor Orbits

Option 2:
Ear: Relic Orbits.
Ring of Minor Orbits

We end up with more build variety and we don’t obsolete tokens with the combo Arcane Earcuff of Orbits. Additionally, the combo token frees up an ear slot for many builds which may not all be the same token. A typical build using a 4IS ioun ear will likely still use the other ear slot for arcane Earcuff, meaning lots of similar builds.

I'd like something like a Rare Polymorph Token - Dragon Whelp, that has a decent damage wheel with fire damage built in, and maybe can attack at range once per room.

Then, I'd like a Transmuted Polymorph token along the lines of a young Dragon, which has a better damage wheel and can grant flying / attack at range. Perhaps it just grants the flying/attack at range (similar to Potion of Leaping or the wooden Flight potion) as a consumable to those that can't polymorph.

It's way past time to give a really special Polymorph token to polymorphers, especially for users of Iktomi.

Can we get a Transmute path to a Token that gets us to 6th level please? My Dwarf Fighter has been 5th level for many years now. I keep telling him to hang in there and not throw in the towel because his party really needs him but after going on adventure after adventure after adventure and still not leveling up depression is starting to set in. Grumpy Dwarf's aren't fun to have around, please help him get to 6th level.
