if you want more than 2 dungeons at GenCon. Apply now. GC has 2 shifts so you can still play games and volunteer. Plus you get all kinds of perks

Hopefully there's enough vols to have True Grind as well.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

Yes please - True Grind!

Have 3 of us how planning to volunteer. Still deciding on full or part time. Will likely sign up in the next couple weeks.

How's the whole badge thing work, if I already have a badge, then I get a TD vol badge...what happens?

If you have a standard badge then it's straight refund from Gen Con, depending when TD issues badges the process is automatic or worse case an email to Gen Con. I've gone through it enough as i usually get a badge for the hotel lottery and get the refund once TD issues a badge to my Gen Con account. If you have trade day or VIG badge then it becomes something different, i think.. Never been applicable to me.

I'm having a bit of a dilemma now. I normally volunteer with another company at GenCon, but confirmed today that they are not taking people this year. So I'd love to volunteer with TD full time this year, but am worried about the housing portal going live on Sunday - if I don't get accepted for volunteering, I'll regret not booking a hotel when they were available. Does anyone have any advice on the likelihood of being accepted, or anything else I might not have thought of?

I do not speak for TD but from what I have observed on the the forums and Fans of True Dungeon, your chances of getting selected are very high. TD has put out a lot of requests asking for people to volunteer for GenCon. Send Lori an email regarding your desire to volunteer. She is not on the forums much but does respond to her emails.

I believe the hotels in block don't require paying a cancellation fee until much later. So are you in a position where you can buy a badge and book the hotel now, and then if you get selected for volunteering simply cancel the reservation? I was wrong, as Dave points out the actual policy below.

This is what it currently shows on my VIG hotel reservation.

Cancellation Policy. All room assignments are subject to non-refundable cancellation fees. Room assignments cancelled before 11:59 pm Eastern time, June 13, 2022 are subject to a $50.00 USD cancellation fee per room. Room assignments cancelled after June 13, 2022 are subject to a cancellation fee equal to one-night stay per room. Q-rooms LLC will be listed as the merchant originating the cancellation fee on the cardholder’s account statement.

FWIW, I thought your statement was 100% correct until I double-checked. Was it this way in prior years?

Cancellation fees have been a thing for some number of years. Precisely to reduce people booking rooms they don't need, assumedly.

I have been told that there has been at least one other event that timed itself to be at the same time as Gen Con, attendees to that would get GC badges to get into housing block to get cheaper hotel rooms. Non-gamers gotta game or something.

Yeah I remember a couple years with a giant motorcycle rally! Downtown was quite loud.

Thanks all, it's good to know there are generally quite a lot of positions. I'll go ahead and send in an application in that case, and hopefully get a positive response.

I'll offer that as a Regular volunteer, you're not likely to hear a solid confirmation from TD until much closer to the Con. I'm not saying this to dissuade you in any way, just some advance warning so when you don't hear anything for a while, you know that's par for the course. There's a LOT of moving pieces that come together.
