TOPIC: Suggestion: Different token color for Completion, TBO, and volunteer tokens

Suggestion: Different token color for Completion, TBO, and volunteer tokens 3 years 2 weeks ago #25

I've always liked (and advocated for) the idea of a percentage of the Rares and Uncommons in the treasure boxes be a different color (token and/or sticker). It would be neat to have a chase set of Rares and Uncommons to try to get from the Treasure Box pulls each year, and it would be fun trading with others to try to do it. :)

Oh my! When you say this, all I can think of is how it would drive Trent crazy. He said he loves a good chase, but this might take it to a whole new level. :)

The TBO tokens being white, or teal, or light blue or even if they were no “pips” around the outside would be better distinction than the current. I like color better, though I think “no pip” could maybe be enough. Without color the idea of “special pips” would be hard to distinguish. If light blue were chosen, a “paw” or “claw” or “arrow” as the pip (I don’t know how much can differentiate between stars and pips) would make them identifiable as not a transmute.

So like stickers printed on foil or more like the current stickers with say black backgrounds and white text?

I think that could be neat, especially if they were box only. The problem with plats is most of the people who want them buy so much they can basically auto complete sets, same with onyx sets. Box only chase on the other hand could give value to stuff that wouldn't normally have it.

I was actually wondering if plats could be tb tokens and how that might work. Like if 50% of tb tokens were plat, would that be similar to the 10% of all tokens now? Would it need to be 100% of tb tokens to equate? Would gold backed tokens then be the rarity from token boxes so TBO tokens would be visibly different color.

I wouldn't want us to adjust current token 10 packs. I now of a few who like to collect Platinum sets.

That said, I do wonder about costs. I can imagine that changing colors must come with some additional cost.

I was thinking of something that hopefully wouldn't add much expense to TD, like maybe a different background on the stickers, or a different color token. I agree with you, it might give some value to tokens that would otherwise be headed for the chipper. I stopped collecting Gold and Plat R/U/C sets long ago, but I would try to put together a set of these each year. They wouldn't have to be super rare - maybe 10% of the print run like PLATs or maybe 5%.

I would assume the more gold / plat / onyx backs wouldn’t really add cost. Other colors probably would

I suspect similar colors already used would not raise the cost significantly though potentially other issues that additional color tokens were added to correct (fakes) might come back. Additional light blue tokens are likely not going to increase the cost significantly either. The cost of scale printing TBO like monster trophies on a different color would likely be within range of reasonable, I would expect pip variants would be harder costs to stomach.

An alternate picture coloring for TBO tokens might be enough without changing the token color and printing stickers might be cheaper. I suspect the design for a different background palate might raise design time for a year or two until a full color palate is setup.

They could probably do copper back fairly easily, we know they've used that color for lore.

Honestly I've always been kind of surprised they don't use the onyx proofs for something like this. They could for example use onyx rare/uncommons as box only variants. They offer the onyx URs/common sets as part of 8ks.

You know, completion tokens would probably be ideal as light blue. They are often in the same realm of power as 3* and 4* tokens.

That said, they’ve been onyx before, so maybe should just go onyx all the time.

I think from a manufacturer perspective onyx are the default plastic colour used for proofs. Total guess but those onyx completion tokens at smaller events might be test runs of a new "part" TD requested from the factory. I don't know if that would have any effect on their ability to order larger runs in that material.
