I think the dwarven boost commons are really a cool idea. To take that extra bit forward a focus on benefits in the common realm that helps the new player boost their rares.

To that end, looks like dwarves this year maybe Orcs or Elven this time?

Ioun stone of elven wisdom +1 to hit with elven weapons
Elven short bow
Elven earring of balance +1 to dexterity
Boots of elven stride

I thought the combo this year for dwarves were great albeit disappointed that dwarvish king was not included as it would had been a nice “stairway” to a Theme for a new player.

Obviously a ravager theme can be replaced for elven. Just the concept of a build up that leads to a peak and replace to the next level seems interesting and keeps the commons from being simply mulch

Can I suggest creating a static set of 10 common items that recur year to year?

Throwing Dagger

Hand Wraps (Monk weapon with slightly better than nothing damage wheel)

Halfplate Armor

Leather Armor

Shortbow

Small Shield

Cap (+1 HP)

I like a Pirate's theme including:

Random gold coins--Pieces of eight--found in dungeon rooms
An "Arrgh" token, let the imagination flow
Weapons--blunderbusts and swords
Parrot token, speak to the animals (monsters)
Wooden Peg Leg

2 handed weapon, 1-9 wheel
Barb,Cleric,Druid,Fighters,Paladin
Wielder cannot be pulled underwater

The underwater thing probably will never come up, but somewhat amusing and isn't really any more powerful than the +3 damage in specific condition addendums that were on older commons

Could alternatively work as a 1-6 wheel adding in Monk and Wizard and make the picture the handle side of the oar rather than the blade side, but not as amusing.

Every set should have one or two Common Flurry weapons. Add it to a dagger or club. Something to make it easier on new players.

I would suggest alternating between a common FoB compatible weapon (probably bracers?), and a common shuriken. It will have been 13 years since the last common shuriken by the time this set is released.

Why would a monk need common melee weapons?

The point of monk is supposed to be to use bare hands.

Much like any build that's using commons, I would be interested in three things: bonuses to hit, more HP/recovery, ranged weapon (only matters if the dungeons prevent melee attacks). Of course, more damage is always desirable, but it's not all that useful unless can actually hit.

Obviously, spellcasters have somewhat different priorities. Wizards can use Dex for AC and sliding spells, but HP/recover and +dmg are the two things I cared about back when my collection didn't matter.

The Monk has damage numbers in their slider specifically so that they don't need Common/Uncommon melee weapons.
