It lends itself to the idea that these events are slightly smaller fields of participation, and the abbreviation of LTD also supports the idea they are more limited.

That really doesn't apply to Gen Con though where there have been 8000 tickets. I think Origins and GHC also do more tickets for their weekends than VTD does in one weekend, but I could be wrong about that.
