In this case it wouldn't be a whole lot different than the normal UR level booster (RoFH, Cook's Hat, etc). However, instead of just making certain slots unusable, instead they would be filled with particular rares.

If those rares were done well, I think this would be a fantastic idea. For example:

3 rares are shirt, pants, and back, and the UR is a neck. This limits a build to fixed choices for shirt / pants / back / neck that while good may not be optimal, but doesn't have any penalities.

Set the 3 rare items as one set bonus so people want to collect them, then add the +1 level as 4th item bonus, which you can only get by having the UR.

I would like to again suggest that the "keystone" item for this be a transmute. Either a costly Exalted or a cheaper Relic in the style of multi-year monster bit items (Draco-lich charm, Icecrag's).

The thought behind this is to reward consistent multi-year play. It seems this was also the thought behind the Ring of Heroism with the completion token/volunteer token transmute paths and a full set if trade goods. That recipe may have been a bit of a stretch, but was obtainable for long-time players that were not also dedicated token buyers.

With Gen Con tickets now at $80/run, it doesn't seem out-of-bounds to suggest a path to 5th level for people who play year in, year out. Making the keystone item something that requires an additional $250/person (outside auctions) is a bit of a steep ask for people who may spend $75/year split over a few people for the 10 packs.

I do appreciate the role token sales play in the sustainability of TD as a business. So, I understand if that consideration takes precedence.

Agree and would like to see Ring of Heroism come back as a reward for playing, it encouraged token collecting a bit and especially gave an outlet for completion tokens. I'd find it hard to believe that i'm not alone in a category of those who spend more than a few tickets a year but don't spend $$$$ on tokens. I treat TD like Magic in the sense if i pull (or really like to craft) something cool great, if not i don't generally spend the $$$ on tokens. I've spent far far more on tickets in any given year than tokens. I play and collect to play.

I do like the idea of a rare set that grants 5th lvl, but would prefer something transmuted to encourage more token collection/trade in.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven
