TOPIC: Suggestion for 2021 rare token 3 piece set

Suggestion for 2021 rare token 3 piece set 1 week 6 days ago #1

For next year I would like to suggest a 3 piece token set at rare level that give +1 level as the 3 piece bonus.

The level boost is a big thing to get in game and I think it might keep more players if the level boost is easier to get.

Might need to be a 5 piece set but should be usable by all classes.

Ring, Belt, Amulet, Bracer, Charm

Use a few high powered slots at rare level to do it.

Considering it took Might Set two 3 to just get a level boost and it was 3 UR's. 3 Rares does seem too easy. Your 5 suggestion might work better.

Gut reaction:

At a 3-piece set, my response is not just "no", but "strong no", even if you add Neck to your slot list. Keep in mind that Cook's Hat will still be PYP, is a UR, takes 3 slots, and gives no additional benefit. Your 3 Rares might take up more powerful slots but likely cost less in total $, and provide 3 additional bonuses besides the level.

At a 5-piece set, the balance seems a bit better, and would really depend on the other powers provided by the tokens. But then you're taking up 1/8 of the Rares in the set.

Thought: if we did go this route, I'd suggest either making it a 5 year quest with one piece per year or make them the Rare completion tokens for the year (or a combination of the two ideas).

Another reason for not making them normal Rares... Keep in mind just how many Rare tokens go out in a given year, between pre-order sales, starter packs, and treasure draws. You might easily overshoot and make it so that nearly everyone plays at 5th level. Also, TD will wonder why no one did condensed orders ;)

(To end on a positive note, if we did a 5-piece Rare set that was all the clothing items for the year, at least it might cut down on MS)

a 5 or 6 piece set may be the way to go on it.

Doing it in clothing items would be good to cut down a bit on MS production.

The goal of the suggestion is to make 5th level allowable to more of the player base, get more people playing the stronger characters and increase the chances that people buy into the game more.

Ticket cost is one of the limiting factors for the game for a lot of people, adding a large amount of money required to gain 5th level on top of that likely drives players away. Same as adding the rare TE tokens was done to pull in more new players this set would exist for the same reason.

If the set is 5/6 specific rares it's not likely to bring everyone into 5th level that year but it would make 5th level a lot more achievable for players who do any trading of tokens.

It wouldn't affect condensed orders being rare tokens but it would likely affect super condensed orders :)

3 pieces is definitely too few as mentioned, 5 rares in good spaces is probably a solid level, possibly 6 with 2-3 of them being mystic silk items to lower the production of MS for that year.

3 piece rare set is definitely too small. Current ways to teach 5th level:

Artifact
Relic 1 ring slot
Relic 1 charm slot
Eldritch set 2 slots (pants, feet, ring, slotless, slotless)
Might set 3 slots URs (feet, head, waist, mainhand, offhand)
Charming set 3 slots (head, earcuff, ring, ioun)
UR 3-4 slots Medallion of Heroism (neck, ring, ring, possible 3rd ring slot)
UR 3 slots Cook’s Hat (head, ioun, ioun. This token is more powerful than normal because it is honorarily named)
UR 2-3 slots with penalty Ring of Fateful Heroism (ring, ring, possible 3rd ring slot, -1 saves)

Given that I think a rare set would have to be minimum 5 tokens if not more, and should occupy neck, ring (cannot wear other rings), ioun (cannot wear other ioun), waist, hands.

The downside to a large rare set is it occupies so many rares for that year and after that year will become a highly desirable set for players at the rare level, leading me to suspect the combined cost of the 5 tokens would probably hit about 50-60 once it is out of print until another similar set is released and then we end up on an alternating pattern of one rare TE on odd years and then a rare set of 5th level on even years.

I would be against a rare set granting +1 level as I think it would represent significant power creep, but more so I feel like it would be something that could cause problems in coaching.

Its not uncommon for people in C-R gear to make numerous last second changes to their gear & I could see scenarios where for example someone rolled in and had X copies of the rare level set to loan, etc. This would trigger several changes to the stat line.

If we want to make getting to level 5 more economical, then I would suggest something multi year like was done with Ring of heroism. Or as others suggested a multi year completion token set.

I don't think there is a need for level boosters below the UR level - it has historically been something granted at UR level or higher, and often taken 3+ slots to get that level as mentioned above. Additionally, you can make some very good builds without using a single UR that are sufficient for playing at hardcore level(ex this Barbarian truedungeon.com/forum?view=topic&catid=561&id=248798#342043 ).

Instead of getting a multi token rare set, how about another +1 level relic made from recent UR level boosters (Charming set / Ring of Fateful Heroism / Cook's Hat). It's been quite a while since we've had one of those and there are plenty of +1 level URs out there that could be used for the upgrades.

I'd recommend keeping the 5th Level bonus at the UR and above level. It seems too easy to acquire if available at the Rare level, and it also adds a ton of uncertainty to True Dungeon as to how many 5th Level cards to print.

All cards are 5th level cards currently (unless this changed since gencon). XD

Fair point but it would limit our ability to change in the future.

It would be really nice to see another +1 level relic for those of us who missed out on the Ring/Charm of Heroism.

One other thought: would it be acceptable to perhaps do a multi-year set bonus in the Exalted-level transmutes? A set there that took 4-5 slots, including some "power" slots like the neck, wouldn't be too out of line with the apparent progression. From what I can see, the +1 level progression is something like...

UR level
3 slots. "Real" slots (might set, charming set) require multiple tokens, which have additional benefits. "Virtual" slots do +1 level in 1 token, but take up chase spots (rings, Ioun stones).

Relic level
Single slot, no other benefit/penalty

Eldritch level
2 slots, significant benefits from the actual items, additional set bonuses.

A 4- or 5-piece Exalted set would seem to be right in line with the progression, especially if it didn't provide much benefit over the rare items in the same slots. I suppose the counterpoint is that anyone willing to stick through 4-5 years of Exalted transmutes would also likely be able to swing the Relic-level transmute and have it done in one go.

I'm also holding out hope that the Arcanum set provides another 2-piece path like Eldritch did... albeit 7-8 years from now.

A 4- or 5-piece Exalted set would be awesome and would feel better than a rare set. Maybe one that rotates through the years?
