TOPIC: E1 7(or 8?) Token Challenge

E1 7(or 8?) Token Challenge 11 months 2 weeks ago #1

UPDATE
I have 10 tickets for this run on Thursday at 2:36 PM (first run of the con)

Please post or PM if you cant make it.

All,

I was jealous of last year's 7 token challenge, and would like to start to plan and participate in a X token challenge for E1 this year.

The plan would be to have this be the first run of E1 for the entire team, to make it a true challenge.
I think we would plan on nightmare difficulty.
I would like to see if people would be interested, and how many tokens they would like.

My first thought was to play as a 7 token challenge still, given that there will only be functionally 4 tokens rather than 5, as 3 of the 7 will likely be ISSN, ISGN, and CoA.
This should provide a significant challenge given the recent changes to healing, etc.

Please post your thoughts and interest here.

1. Wade: (pd, obv): Any (willing to play Elf Wizard)
2. Mugsi: Paladin (pd)
3. Mrs. Mugsi: Barbarian (pd)
4. JediBCG:: Ranged Ranger (pd)
5. Justice: Monk (pd)
6. Mike L: Rogue (pd)
7. JPotter: Bard (pd)
8. Beertram: Druid (pd)
9. Ralykam: Wizard (pd)
10. Fiddy: Cleric (pd)

Alternates:

Please let me know if you would be interested if someone isn't able to make it.
I know as well as anyone that sometimes things come up.

If anyone is interested, this is the link to the run that inspired this idea. Thanks to Jedi, whose post I copied this from.

Is this for Origins, or GenCon?

If Origins, I'd be interested.

I was part of the first N! run last year and that was fun. Ideally this would be among the first runs at Origins.

I was thinking Origins, as it would be the debut of E1. Also because I'm not sure I'll be able to make GenCon.

Then I remembered I also missed out on the Ro7P voucher run, so I may try to pull one of those together for either E2 or E3 at GenCon if I do make it.

Just to be clear it was not last year that the 7 token challenge happen it was back at TDC. That said you sure it shouldn't be 8 tokens? Either way I am down.

To give folks an idea. When we did at TDC. I was a paladin without a weapon. I took Amulet of Guarding, and AC boost. I slide an empty puck only if someone needed a bump. And I was going to steal someone's weapon if they died.

I'm not sure, I'm more asking what people would like it to be.

If we do 8, it is essentially the same challenge as before, which, as I understood, was one that wasn't all that challenging.

I suppose we could go to 8 and try Epic.

Also, I don't know how the changes to level bumps and healing with the eldritch set would affect all of this.
With only needing 2 eldritch pieces, that still leaves 2 other pieces for anyone to customize their character.
Granted healing has also changed, but it really depends on how much challenge we want.

We did very well on the 7 token challenge. But there are some reasons for that.

First and foremost, we had all done the run before.
Second, nightmare had not yet been upgraded in difficulty..
Third, it was a really good and cohesive group.

You are eliminating the first factor.
The second factor, nightmare will almost certainly continue at the 2018 level of difficulty.
The third factor is quite possible to replicate.

This won't be a cake walk.

Actually we all have NOT done the run before. Granted SOME of the puzzles were repeats but not all. I think only you had done the run before it was new for the rest of us (I don't remember if your son was on it and possibly had done it before).

Here is the thread for builds and discussion if anyone is interested.

Healing is literally cut in half of what it was when we did it. We needed some healing but not much. Nightmare has had a bump. Puzzles will be completely new.

From the thread:
"I don't know that it was too easy. 1 puzzle we had seen before. 2 of our members had seen the dungeon before. I believe we lost 3 in the last room. So it may have been easier than expected but I am not certain if GC will be as successful. I can also remember some poor slides that could have made things a lot worse had they not been bumpwd to hits or off our cubed compatriot."

"I also want to add several of us also had bonuses from the pvp event which was like having another token in some cases did allow for the replacement of a token."

Well, I would be happy to play at whatever token number and difficulty level people think would bring the best challenge.

It sounds like at Nightmare, 7 or 8 would be the right number.
I guess it depends who is up for what challenge is the biggest thing.

You are right, not all of us had done it before. My son and I both had, but we sat back on all the puzzles but the pipe puzzle. Which no solved on Day 1 anyway.

That is true. We had a fair number of legendary weapons last time. I have legendary plate and mail but no legendary weapons. Without them it would also add a layer of difficulty. If it is 7 tokens and I played the Paladin I would lose the Ring of Protection, so the Paladin and the 2 lowest AC's would lose 4 AC total.

Monk and ranger would likely lose cloaks of shadowskin with their nerfs.
Cleric and Druid could lose the Charms of Enlightenment. They might even change out the Lenses of Divine Sight (but I don't know).

Now that the Eldritch Set conveys 5th level to all classes at the same tier, this seems pretty fun and should shake up builds!

Assuming you could build with anything, it would be interesting to see how many builds wouldn't go with 3 eldritch pieces.

I'd also be pretty sorely tempted to leave out ISSN//ISGN for this kind of run.

The last time we did this I used my RoSP voucher to get level.

I now have another reason to regret making Thors instead of Welfors.
