TOPIC: URTE Verification Experiences

URTE Verification Experiences 5 years 4 months ago #1

I had a variety of URTE verification experiences this year, and was curious if other people also had such variety:

Run 1: All TEs viewed in coaching, verified in epilogue - however the volunteer only scanned ~4 CoAs saying "I'm just going to scan a few of these because the machine is finicky" or something to that effect. 6th level player bonuses checked

Run 2: No TEs views in coaching. Only CoA verified in epilogue, but all 10 were scanned. 6th level player bonus checked.

Run 3: Same as run 2.

So:

1. Are TEs supposed to be viewed in coaching?

2. Are non CoA TEs supposed to be verified in epilogue?

3. Is it OK to scan a random sample of CoAs from a group with 10?

I had a highly variable experience, though my first runs were definitely very thorough, so I chalked it up to people being familiar with me as the con progressed.

I also dont recall being asked for proof of 6th level, but I also was wearing a purple badge holder with my 8th level pin on it.

Outside the GT I only did two runs. One was sealed. The other was E3. On the E3 run I asked in coaching if my TE's needed to be seen and was told no, only in Epilogue. Wasn't asked for proof of 6th level. In Epilogue they scanned my CoA's but didn't ask to see my UR TE's, although I did have them in hand ready to show.

This year I was not asked for any token validation for TEs outside of my CoAs.

This not only includes the nuggets and Cogf, but tokens on runs too - I never had to show my ring of spell storing, any proof of 5th level, etc.

On the first day I had a few people ask to see my silver and gold nugget, but after a while they only asked to see my CoA. I think there were two reasons. A few commented that they've seen me before and know I have the tokens. I think for the others there was an assumption that if I had a legit CoA, the chances were pretty high that I also had the nuggets and was 6th level.

Mine was a very mixed bag. No one was asking to verify 6th level at any point during the process, and we had about a 50% hit rate on making sure all CoAs were verified for my group, with one notable pass where no verification was requested. I was never asked to show URTE, and stopped pulling them out after my first run of the con.

Chalk it up to it being the first year, maybe.

On Thursday, they checked mine. After that I was told they weren't verifying TEs at epilogue unless you had 10+ pulls. This seemed to bear out.

Every CoA was checked that I ran in a party with, I love seeing this tokens they’re so pretty.

I own no CoA’s, but I own a bag of TEs that I hold dear. Nobody ever asked to feel or touch them (if this stands I’m going to put them back in the character books so I don’t have to freak out about my sack of TEs).

In the most lax run they looked at the TEs on the table as I dropped them and said “yup that looks about right” and just handed out pulls.

I would say I appreciated the TE respect I saw this year, but I was also more organized and prepared for the worst that was two years ago now? The “check twice, once in a dark room” was infuriating when I didn’t expect it. The fact that there was plenty of light in both rooms was a pleasant surprise honestly.

My first run was smooth and painless - after being told that I didn't need to get out my treasure tokens until epilogue, I put all of mine (rare +1, Charm of Treasure Boosting, and Medallion) in my token holder between room 7 and the AC room and showed it to the volunteer. No problems.

My second run on Friday was a bit more interesting...once I got to epilogue, I realized that the 'Treasure' box on my line of the party card was completely blank! (Apparently I picked a bad time to head to the restroom before my run, and the coach skipped me while the rest of my party was figuring out exactly how many CoA's they had between them.) Our volunteer looked at the party card where everybody else had max treasure, looked at one of our regulars who quickly vouched for me, and said "I know you, and if you say he has the treasure, we'll give him the treasure."

I honestly don't remember how many tokens the rest of our party had to show for that one, or even whether we actually had enough. I wasn't part of that particular discussion.

From the few posts here it sounds like the TE verification process was pretty lax. Which is a bit disturbing. All CoA's should be verified by the app every time and all other TE's should be physically verified every time, including verification of the Medallion of Nobility for the extra chip if the player is 6th level. Even if the volunteers have seen players before with certain TE's they should still verify their Tokens again. Without this process in place I feel it devalues what we've spent to acquire the TE's.

I see this point. I would also submit that the volunteers had some trouble with the verification software/app, at least in my experience. In the interests of moving people through, if a given person had already scanned my CoA, saw them again, and scanned some of them, they let me pass. I showed my URs quickly and efficiently.

The alternative might have been to make sure that everyone had every CoA scanned every time, which would have almost certainly resulted in long delays.

Maybe all URTE tokens in the future (and maybe backfit also) should have chips, so that the volunteer could spot scan those also.

Related question, the treasure box wand won't pick up a token with a chip and no metal core, right?
