TOPIC: E Series Potential Easter Eggs (Spoilers)

E Series Potential Easter Eggs (Spoilers) 5 years 4 months ago #1

Spoilers on this whole thread.

I was thinking about whether there might be some easter eggs in the E dungeons.

I'm wondering if people tried any of the following interactions:

1. In E1.1 where the spirit of the husband is summoned, did anyone who could speak with dead try talking with him? What about the skulls on the gem sarcophagus on E2 (or the hands in the sarcophagus).

1a. Also in E1.1, our Swamp Hag asked us to yell at / taunt her husband. What if a RoSP Bard or Dwarf Fighter used the actual taunt ability on the card?

2. E3.7 - in the fight with Blackthorn, did anyone try casting Scroll Magic Circle on Blackthorn? I'm sort of curious if Blackthorn was being mind controlled by the Mind Slayer.

3. E3.5(?) - In the fight with the thing that threw lava at the party, if the Druid shapeshifted into a Flame elemental, could they guard / block the party somewhat?

4. Blight Bud Fight - What if you cast Scroll Corpse Conversion or moved the flame towards the Blight before you came near a rune and it activated?

5. Soul Eating Room. What if you tried to move a soul into a Soul Jar or Soul Coffer?

Did anyone else find any easter eggs that worked in the dungeon?

Remove Disease or Remove Curse might also be interesting to try. At least one DM mentioned a parasite being killed off when you kill the creature "for real".

E3.3 - one of the skulls starts humming the Feast Hall song from last year. What happens if the whole party sings along?

E1.3 What happens if the party has equipped the Boots of the Bog Treader and something that provides free movement? Can our helpful tour guide still leave the party behind?

Interesting ideas.

That would add more favor to the rooms and the dungeons in general. However in the Soul Eater room, I am not made aware of any alternatives. However, the idea of the room in general I enjoyed. Having the group of ten focus on team work to 'solve' the 'puzzle'. A human behavior professor would really find this room be worth wild to study. I found it fascinating to study the groups to see how well certain people's personalities play in working the puzzle, as well as what groups had the most difficult time working together.
Volunteer Player Coach for a bunch of years... missed two years of Gencon, but back for more this year! And as a Puzzle DM too. o.O

Yes, this happened to my party at Origins.

This would have been an awsome room to have a multiple completion method Easter egg. I hope that at some point (buffered npcs permitting of course) it would be really cool if the betrayal mechanism could somehow be made optional. I think something similar was done with the trapped genie the year we were on the airship I the she could be freed by destroying her chains or killed off as a monster encounter.

Over several runs of this, my parties tried:

1. Leaving her behind
2. Detect evil
3. Not buffing her with the stones
4. Doing the stone ritual in reverse to see if it would debuff her
5. Doing the stone ritual with players in the center instead

I must confess I was a tad disappointed that none of these methods allowed us to avoid the combat. Something of a missed opportunity. Then again, we'd have been waiting in the room doing nothing if we avoided it....Avoiding combat in TD is something of a double-edged sword.

Even if combat still happens we could have scripted the room to allow for the choice. Maybe for example if you have Maggie on side instead of her sneaking off the room GM could play a pre-recorded audio queue where in her sister comes out of the swamp and is angery Maggy is being sentimental again. Or she says something about the monster being the same hag that got her beloved husband. Maggie could then stay behind or leave for another reason. Even if the actual events dont change different RP paths would feel more like choices.

Side with Maggie and wind up fighting the ghost of her husband instead?

Or the "Hag that made her husband stray" to quote one of our Maggies (which in retrospect makes me wonder if that was Maggie we were talking to at all).

I tread to speak with dead in the room and even have the hag talk to her husband with the rod, she declined.

Hopefully Jeff will see some of these notes and add a specialty piece or two into like 1 room each dungeon each year that you can affect in some way to give the more detail oriented players something cool to discover. A non-direct benefit would be wonderful, something kinda cool, extra lore, different pre-battle speech, etc, etc. Noting that would give a direct benefit so players are tempted to spoil it for other groups but something small for multiple-run players to search for
