E3 Puzzle Room Question 5 years 2 months ago #1

Spoilers below.

In E3 (I think) there was a room with 4 talking skulls, each skull had some distinguishing characteristics and needed a certain weapon given to them.

Their names were like:

Dog
Bog
Mog
Flog

We guessed that each one needed the weapon whose letter matched its name, like:

Dog - Dagger
Bog - Bow
Mog - Mace
Flog - Flail

We got it wrong at first, because we gave the Mog the Morningstar, not the Mace.

However than I realized: Wait - both Mace and Morningstar start with M.

How were you supposed to figure out Mog wanted the Mace and not the Morningstar?

I'm curious if anyone else managed to get an effect out of the Christmas clue. We tried covering the eyes on our run (didnt have the skulls with us to try the other theory) but the DM said there was no effect.

It was evidently only supposed to work for the first person to do it. Jeff didn't find out about the first person until after the second person did it though.

Nothing like audio where majority of the party can't understand. Best puzzle room was the one with the rat in E1 where there were multuple printouts posted of their speech.

I must have missed this. What are you guys referencing? So many ideas racing through my head about what this means.

There are certain days on which certain Jeff's post seemingly random poems/riddles. They are normally deleted shortly there after. This year one of those whispers from TPTB referenced a dungeon room in E3.

Thanks for the info Fiddy :)

That said I'm disappointed it only worked for the first group, that makes accessing the meta puzzle basically impossible for anyone not able to run early in the morning. Even if future occurrences like this do something special for the first group to find them it would be nice if they did something for everyone else even if it was something as minor as +1ac for the rest of the dungeon.

Jeff posted this on Christmas, 2018:
---
When solved you have the floor with time
A boon be gained from this small rhyme
Upon a corner skull of blue
Onyx, emerald and ruby, too
And when all four are covered hence
A boon you gain for your defense
---

What did the group who did this get?

That makes sense unfortunately the sounds weren’t working for my run.

So I'm basically a TD newb and also happen to have crappy hearing. The poor audio quality really affects my ability to be an effective party member, which in turn affects my enjoyment of the TD experience. This was particularly an issue for our group in the skull room being discussed in this thread. None of us could understand what the skulls were saying! We knew we needed to listen for clues, but even when we split up to have 2 people by each skull we couldn't understand what they said. We also wasted time waiting for them to restart their little song, which was incredibly frustrating.

It would be an absolutely HUGE improvement to have both the text of A/V information/clues, as well as pertinent parts of the Sages' scripts, printed and posted in each dungeon room. If players are supposed to glean clues from these scripts, we've got to be able to understand what is said. The one room at GenCon that used this method was awesome; we'd love to see that as a TD standard going forward. (it would also be more inclusive for anyone with hearing-related disabilities)

My group could hear the skulls pretty well on Saturday, but the volume was turned up enough it was difficult to tell which skull was talking. Our suggestion was to have a visual clue as to which skull was talking- a spot light on the talking skull would be great, or perhaps LEDs in the eyes or on the stands.

When I went through the skills had animations that made it clear which was talking by moving around.

Maybe it broke?
