"Hey, you know this sealed pack we -just- gave you? Oops, you got a banned token. Sorry, guess you can't use the best thing you pulled out of your kit! Oh, it's usable in -other- dungeons, but not now, right after you got it!"

Assuming Harlax's math is correct, you're setting up for potentially 25 bad interactions: not just 25 bad interactions for the player that opened it, but for the other players on the same run with that player who may now question if any future tokens are going to be banned, and if it's worth buying in if they can't even use the things they just opened.

I don't have a dog in this fight: I'm currently slated for exactly zero NX-Odin's Redux runs. But I think this is a bad call. If there's some prior history with people sneaking TEs as their rare into these runs, I'd like to hear about it.

Considering the other abuse we have seen in dungeons. What is a coach supposed to do if a group shows up and says they pulled 10 ISGN from their packs? Okay what about 2? It is HIGHLY unlikely but not impossible. Would it be better to call someone a cheater and be wrong or have people unhappy with the all out ban? I don't know just asking the question. Bad characters make it bad for everyone unfortunately.

It might be the catalyst for giving someone token fever (a malady I'll likely never recover from). Especially since it's a minimal number of extra draws over the course of the con.

Unless special 3 packs (or 4 with the completion already included) are being designed to speed along the epilogue room experience. Basically with no need to go down the list, just hand everyone a little treasure bag. Then cool makes a lot of sense.

Also pretty clear 2019 tokens will be given out, as the original message talked about the Crown and the Gold Nugget.

I am guessing to prevent anyone from abusing it. Wow what are the odds that 3 people all got the rare treasure enhancer and one of you got the UR one as well.

Honestly its probably just to simplify the exit process/keep coaching moving quickly.

Is handing out 1 extra token that difficult? Is Odin's that much more difficult any other run? But killing 2 birds might be the answer.

It’s a newbie dungeon, meant for newbies. Anything that discourages veterans from playing, even a little bit, without our-right banning them, sounds like a good call to me.

I’d suggest just don’t hand out packs with crowns, and if anyone does pull a Nugget, maybe just give them +2 max HP as a bonus since they can’t use it on that run. Make it a jackpot moment.

And if someone wants to wreck their karma over two HP, let them. I think they have bigger problems.

Give them +1 HP for the crown as well. Problem...adverted? Maybe?

Deciding what packs someone gets seems a PR nightmare. "They chose what packs we got for this run, but the other runs had better packs, way better packs, godlike packs of infinite dollars."

Banning TEs must relate to some specific problem that's being addressed. Without knowing that problem, hard to say what measures would make any sense.

There are routinely useless tokens. There are tokens that aren't useless but are questionable to use, like a Scroll to do meaningless extra damage that won't win the fight.

To take away the best tokens just seems awful. To say "Due to the nature of this event, we have a rule in place to prevent extra treasure draws, similar to how True Grind is only a single treasure chip. However, that token is more valuable than most and is usable in normal TD events." sounds adequate.

Maybe a con point would be better, 2 con points for the Nugget if someone pulls it. Then they are not band and thus dead tokens in the bags. I think the level 6 bonus should be available, but I’m not doing any runs of this at gencon so really don’t have any skin in the game. If this was a classic dungeon instead of one I know well I would do 1 run just to see it.

I’m in Odins redux each morning . I think an alternative to this if they do get te will be to tell them that they won’t be able to use it but I can increase any stat that they want to compensate

This makes perfect sense to me. The only problem I see is that it wasnt announced when tickets went on sale, or in the event description.

Maybe make the change for next year?

It might not be an issue next year. There is no UR TE next year in packs and there might not be a rare, there won't be if the rares don't change.

Here is the long event description. It pretty clearly states only 3 treasure draws. Not that there won’t be confusion anyway.

Description:This full adventure (comprised of the best rooms from last year's N1 - N3 series) is a great intro dungeon for new players & a lot of fun for veterans who missed the fun last year. It’s an immersive adventure where players must venture across the Astral Plane, a frozen wilderness and into a cursed temple of Odin. Only the provided 10-pack of free tokens can be used in the event. Normal XP is available for those who did not play ANY of the N1, N2 or N3 adventures. Only Non-lethal & Normal modes are an option. Each player gets 3 token draws from a Treasure Generator, and a Rare Completion Token. Unlike the E-Series of adventures (where you can arrive 30 minutes early) please arrive at ticket desk no sooner than 10 minutes before your start time.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian
