That bites.
It sounds like it’s time to impose a discount as a reward for players when they reach a certain level. 🤔

As nice as that sounds as a 8th level player. I do not like that idea. We need to keep new blood coming to the game. If folks at the top get a discount that someone else will have to bear I just don't like it. Also there would be no way to prevent people at the top buying tickets for those at the bottom.

Yeah, nice thought, but doesn't sound workable.

It also isn't realistic to not expect one. Materials cost more, staff want raises, contracts expire and need to be updated.

I agree it would be nice to keep prices at 79 and 59 respectively.

Especially at GenCon, 80 definitely feels too close to 100 for my liking.

I worry about new players as well. At PAX I ran with several groups that 1 or 2 vets only. Idk how often we would see that at GC.

We have had a least 1 year where there was no increase since I have been playing.

Which would mean that happened while I was playing as well. I couldn't recall it.

The idea that one new player could become a big ticket buyer if they love TD, but they don't because ticket prices went up a few dollars doesn't necessarily make sense to me. If someone has the means to become this big token purchaser, odds are they have the means to pay the additional cost.

What they need, in both situations, is someone to introduce them to the game and help them see that they can have a great time in it.

I think I repeated the phrase "you don't need tokens to be successful in this game" a dozen times this past weekend. It's true, the most important piece of having fun here is being part of the game.

That isn't what I said. It was that if someone doesn't play because the cost seems too high we don't know if they would become a 'big' token purchaser.

And there it is. Is that 2011 to 2012?

I apologize if I misrepresented what you said. I agree with what you said.

I do believe that the chance that someone would become a big token buyer, but not pay the initial cost to play, also seems low.

I dont know, it's easier to boil a frog slowly. I got in when tickets were half the price they are now and have grumbled as prices have gone up slowly but I'm invested so I'm probably not going anywhere. I asked my brother if he wanted to come to gencon with me this year and he was super into it until I told him the price at which point balked. Were in about the same place financially. IMO you have to ease people into these big ticket items if you want there to be any chance of them becoming whales.

Isn’t one of those years when TD moved from the Marriott to the convention center? Maybe the space cost was lower?

After a $16 jump last year, I'd be pissed at another increase this year. Especially since GenCon appears to be financing ops at all other conventions.

I don’t know that you can conclude that. Without knowing cost of space rental, it’s all guesswork.

I think he means operations. Several people have suggested in other threads or on Facebook that Gen Con tickets are high in order to cover all the development costs of new sets and props for the year.
