TOPIC: Volunteering - Participation Tokens

Volunteering - Participation Tokens 5 years 10 months ago #1

Volunteers at Gen Con do not receive a copy of the participation tokens without actually playing in the events, correct?

How many different participation tokens are usually presented at Gen Con?

I've been quiet for a bit on the boards, but I've been confirmed as a volunteer at this point in time and want to make sure to get my things in order prior to the event.

True. But, you get volunteer-only tokens. (Golden Ticket holder often get those, too.)

Usually two different ones per dungeon, and one for Grind. This is the first year for a newbie dungeon, and we don’t think there will be any unique completion tokens for it.

So, my guess is seven this year, and maybe Avery’s Cherry as a newbie “competition” token. (Technically, that was a pre-order bonus, so not unique.)

Congrats, and welcome to the ranks!

Thanks for the information and the welcome, Brad. I'm looking forward to helping at Origins as well. Currently I'm considering volunteering for all four conventions as the year progresses, and the next starts. Right now I'm trying where best to play each event. I was planning on aiming for the other conventions throughout the year. With the Gen Con exclusive participation tokens being players only, I'm reconsidering.

It should be very easy to trade 1 of your volunteer tokens for a complete set of all participation tokens.

The volunteer tokens usually are worth $50-200.

The participation tokens are usually worth $5.

You can also check with some of the big token traders setup in the TD area and should be able to pickup a set of completion tokens for a fair amount.

The volunteer tokens are in much greater demand and more costly to track down.

Thank you for the insight. It will be my first real interaction with the invite so the information is appreciated. I'll have to keep an eye out for the traders and see if I can get a good deal on the full set of participation tokens for Gen Con.

Volunteer tokens can widely vary in value. Bear in mind that all part time get a rare volunteer exclusive token and full time/build crew get the ultra rare.

Example last year's was tokendb.com/token/ioun-stone-tanzanite-sphere/ for part timers and Full time got the tokendb.com/token/ioun-stone-tanzanite-cube/

Obviously the UR worth far more. I'm fortunate I usually fit in enough runs to get a set of participation, else i'll just buy them off one of the dealers at con or even trade post run. Rarely is a participation token a must have from a play-ability stand point.

Welcome to the ranks!
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

Late on this but
All players will get three draws from a special random treasure generator, and every player will receive a limited-edition Completion Token. Per the upcoming events page.
