Are there any Patron-specific events at GenCon? Also on the ones i've been to a decade ago, the GT Runs were on Wednesday night. Is that still the case?

Gen Con GT's are at 6.30 or 7 pm on the Wednesday night I believe

Just to make sure everyone is on the same page... GHC has a badge level called Patron (above their VIG badge level) that has nothing to do with being a TD patron. So the GHC patron events being mentioned are related to the con, not TD.

TD patron events are online only this year (as far as I'm aware).

As someone who's never been to GHC, I find this answer very helpful. Thank you! I didnt realize "patron" applied to GHC in this context, and instead thought it referred to TD Patron. I'll keep my eye on the lookout for VTD Patron stuff coming up! Thank you so much!

First - I think it is great that there is a GT run at GHC - especially for people who don't go or can't go to GenCon. I have some constructive suggestions for doing it a little differently at GHC, though.

Last year's run just didn't feel like a Golden Ticket run like at GenCon. It felt like a regular run even with the person at the end thinking it was a regular run for treasure draws and no knowledge of a "room 8" or anything like that.

1. I recommend the time for the run be something special. I recommend either Wednesday night or Thursday night. If Thursday night, I'd recommend ending other runs early and setting something like 8pm on is the GT run so it is operating by itself. Friday nights and Saturday nights tend to have a lot of special events that we don't want to pit with this one.

2. Please let players know well in advance of when it will be. If it is Wednesday night, that may change flights for quite a few attendees. That makes Thursday night even more appealing.

3. Please pick a time that minimizes conflicts with other events. Last year's time blocked out both morning and early afternoon events for Thursday (ie 8a/9a games and noon/1p games). 11a means you can only do the GT run then your next game is likely 4p or 5p. I'd suggest 8p or 9p Thursday night.

Changing it would inconvenience those who already signed up for GT run based on an expectation of having similar times to last year since GenCon GT runs have occurred on a predictable time window for years.

I was referencing the GHC GT run. Gencon’s run on Wed night is perfectly timed. GHC has only had a GT run once and it’s scheduling was problematic.

There is no set time yet so Thursday isn't set in stone either. It has only been run once so there isn't a long-standing precedent like there is for GenCon. Objectively, that time slot didn't go well at GHC (compared to GenCon) and TD said they would be looking at changes including the time of the run and reminded us not to plan a specific time yet. Respectfully, I'd have to disagree that setting a time that makes the run work better is an inconvenience to anyone as we were explicitly told the time hasn't been set yet.

Hotels absolutely haven't sold out. There are quite a few rooms within a mile. The Clarion is the only attached hotel - everything else pretty much requires a car (that walk across the highway is long and somewhat dangerous for the other nearest hotels.) Not all the flights have even popped up yet for pre-booking so there is time in that area as well. Knowing the time is more important for setting flights than hotels (a lot of people do late flights Wednesday unless they have something planned Wed night.)

I do have access to another GT (I'm already signed up for GC) answering your second point but haven't signed up yet for GHC. I love GT runs but the GHC one last year just felt like a vanilla run with a goodie bag. There wasn't a room 8 and the epilogue volunteers thought it was just another run. I completely understand how it happened with the compressed schedule and trust TD will make corrections. I'm not sure having a Room 8 is even possible if the GT run happens at a time near the other runs. Part of that should likely be a time that makes it feel more special. Part of that will depend on how many volunteers sign up.

Well, I am hoping that this year the GT run at GHC is treated as more than just a normal run with a goody bag. I think last year was unique in that it was the first time it was held at GHC and there was shortage of volunteers. So, I think it was one of those things that just got missed in a rush to do a lot of things with fewer people.

Having said that, I totally understand that TD is free to adjust their schedule however they like. Nothing was a firm commitment in regards to the GT run. I also think everyone's situation is different. In my case, it will be an inconvenience if they move it to Wednesday. I'm staying at the Clarion, but not arriving until Thursday. I'm also renting a car to travel there, so if they move it, the run starts to become a little more expensive for me to add another day to my itinerary.

I also know that GHC patrons have a dinner on Wednesday night and if any of them are on the GT run, it would become a conflict. I think the bottom line is that there is no perfect solution. I'll just wait for details and adjust as needed, but my hope is that they keep it on Thursday, but make it just a little more special.
